" ADVERT FOR SEASON TICKETS? ? ? "

Sat Apr 18, 2015 5:02 pm

How can Cardiff City entice those there today who have not renewed their season tickets to want to do so next season after the performance that was served up this afternoon.

On top of that how do fans who have renewed try and convince fellow supporters and friends to buy a season ticket when they don't believe in the football and match day experience themselves.

I would struggle to convince someone if I told them the truth.

Today we were lacking ideas, the effort shown was as if the players had started their summer holidays already.

The club have said they are sticking with Russell Slade next season but I can't see how that is a good " business decision ".

Fans want results, fans want performances but they are not getting them especially at home.

While big Al is still there I won't be.

After 20 years of going down I can honestly say this is the most dire its been.

Even in the lower leagues with low crowds at ninian park, we still had an atmosphere, it was still fun to go.

20 years on with 2 young kids I'd rather spend my time with them. Until they are old enough to want to go themselves anyway

So why has anybody renewed then?

Exactly as you and Carl quoted - loyalty.

So many are making excuses why they aren't going to renew and seem happy for the loyal supporters to keep the club alive whilst they sit on the sidelines until we are competing at the top of the league again so they can honour us with their presence. In the meantime we are worrying about how to entice them back as if they are special, when in fact the majority are clearly glory hunters.

Don't call me a glory hunter, i've been a supporter for 55 years and a season ticket holder for 35 years. I stopped going a few weeks ago , I cant continue to support the club. It's nothing to do with the crap football it's the whole running of the club from owner to manager and all the hanger on's . It's not the club that I fell in love with, something has changed.

Why have many left?

1) Loss of empathy / loyalty to the club that officialy "died" to them in the summer of 2012

2) "Cheated on" syndrome, based on rebrand - Its hard to forgive and forget someone who betrayed you. The initial "love" goes and you plod along out of routine / familiarity until you just can't be bothered anymore, or something better comes along

3) Prices - YES, I know they've dropped but a walk up gate of £28 quid is a bit high for Championship football, especially when a majority of visiting teams are drab / dire.

4) Negativity of the CCS as a venue - This includes the style of football, ZERO atmosphere, shit food and drink, and prominent elements of the rebrand all over the place (adverts, badge, red extension / seats), also OTT parking prices at the stadium and athletics stadium (Its still only a 5er down in Liberty and surrounding area!!!)

5) Change of personal circumstances - LOTS more people have started feeling the pinch lately as cutbacks kick in around Wales

6) ENTERTAINMENT - at the end of the day, its just not a "fun day" out at the City, and while the hardcore are there for the football, Sky has turned it in to an entertainment cash cow, and a LOT of people these days expect the "instant entertainment" factor that they get from the TV - big names, attactive football. For most people THIS is the football they see 95% of the time and have access too. We are not at that level, and people do not want to watch. If you compare us to League 2 / 1 games, its far more entertaining.

7) God knows. People always have some excuse. Today I'm going to say fear of catching plague from the visiting fans

Sat Apr 18, 2015 8:14 pm

I've lost count of the amount of people who have been going for over forty years who have told me they are not renewing. It's a complete falsehood to say it's only glory hunters. The club has a serious issue on its hands!

Re: " ADVERT FOR SEASON TICKETS? ? ? "

Sat Apr 18, 2015 8:39 pm

The issue the club has is how weak our fan base is. Owners, managers and players come and go, fans should be there supporting THEIR team. The red / badge debacle has been banished, so people move on to the next excuse. If we were top of the league, what would our season take up be then?

Re: " ADVERT FOR SEASON TICKETS? ? ? "

play the game, save yourself hundreds of pounds, dont renew, there be free tickets , deals, etc, next season,

Re: " ADVERT FOR SEASON TICKETS? ? ? "

Sat Apr 18, 2015 9:56 pm

It certainly can't be to do with money, as we have thousands who have paid for season tickets yet can't be bothered to go to games they have already paid out for  It can't be the rebrand as we are now back in blue with a new bluebird badge on the way. We have to face the fact that Cardiff and surrounding areas are just not into football as much as other areas of the country. They have always been fickle and always will be, if you compare us to say Newcastle, you get an idea of what commitment to a team is. They still get 50000 every week, even though they are clearly being taken for a ride every season. Leeds are the same

If you are absolutely genuine then it is people like yourself that the club needs to listen too as there is something seriously wrong if fans of such longstanding feel the way that you do and something needs to change.

Quick question (well, actually two!)

Who are these 'hangers on' you refer to?? :?

That cannot include certain 'employees' of the club, who are simply 'doing their jobs' according to the iron-fisted will of the owner and there is less of an 'entourage' behind the owner than ever there was before!

Do you genuinely think the club is worse than at any time in your supportership?? :?

Would be very surprised at that, as I've been going 46 years and I've seen a lot worse than the current bunch of players and/or owner!

I may be wrong, but I cannot but think you have a motive other than what you state for deserting the club at this particular time ;)

Spot on and I think you'd have a the balls to say so too...not hide behind some other excuse that blames the club or (in most case these days) Tan! :notworthy:

I am totally pissed of with the been since the 60's and a season ticket holder for 35 years crap......We barely had 200 season ticket holders in the late 80's. Season tickets are a recent phenomenon. You all must be on this forum ?

We are returning to our core support of 10/11K which if you look through our recent history is still good.

We have another 6~8K "entertainment" group who expect some form of entertainment and don't go down the city out of routine or loyalty. They are city fans but do expect to enjoy the experience.

Our club has put so many barriers in the way of non season tickets holders. In the good old days of paying at the turnstiles forward planning was never an issue except getting in early to get a good spot. Dynamic or early bird pricing will needs to go. The club needs to accept that the lemming fans era has gone.

I have no intention of not going next season. I am weighing up my options. Do I stay in the lower Ninian, upgrade to the back of the Ninian return to the family stand and almost half my season ticket outlay or buy on the day.

If its crap I may miss the odd raining Tuesday night games......

I probably represent the majority.

Just an ordinary fan, no motive or axe to grind. Just telling it like it is . I've stopped going because I don't enjoy the match day experience anymore. I'm as dyed in the wool blue as anyone on this board and if I can become disillusioned with the club anyone can.

I totally agree with you and I think it's a disgrace when other (so called) supporters have a pop because you are not going anymore.

Think positive, most of these are the 2 pint wonders, smoking wakki backy at half time in the toilets, who abuse women and kids when they have 3 pints and then become brave when someone stands up to them!

Quite a few have stopped going because of them, so we will chuck that scenario into the equation too :ayatollah:

If CCFC loses the Charlie Crockers then I fear the club is in real, real trouble.Remember the cancer started at the top.We are not fans mere customers !!!
