Russell Slade:
The Championship has been competitive, but it’s been frustrating for me that when I first came in we were fighting fitness issues. That did not help. Then we found around Christmas that we were going to be short of the level required to be getting in the top six. We played Boro, Watford and Bournemouth and we could not get top-side of one of those teams. Since then, we have proved that we have made progress with the draw against Bournemouth and the win at Brentford and even in defeat at Ipswich, there was progress.
Absolutely,Cardiff could have gone down. The whole idea is that at some stage you draw a line and look at things. We would be irresponsible as a club if we didn’t. We’ve taken on that responsibility. Finances had to be looked at and have been. The summer will be important for us. There may be one or two players leaving still, but I have to look at rebuilding. We have to replace people with quality as well.

Good honest realistic statement

I do wonder whether, at some point during this season, the club made the decision that they were not going for promotion and decided, instead, to give the manage 6-9 months to build for promotion as opposed to the normal 3 summer months.
Id like to think this is the case.
Personally speaking I think, if we dont go up next season, I have to question when we next will.

Agreed, many clubs bigger than us have dropped down to league 1, including the likes of Leeds, Wolves, Norwich and Southampton. My only concern is can we kick on next season with Slade in charge?
If we are not in the mix for play offs in December next season I think he should be replaced, but I do feel he deserves the summer transfer window and a pre season to get us ready rather than replacing him now and starting the rebuilding stage again.
There has been improvements, and whether it's down to Trollope or Slade it doesn't matter, they are working together and get things right/wrong together.

Just to be petty, the headline should read "Cardiff could HAVE gone down" . End of primary school English lesson

I do believe we would of gone down under Ole this season.
As to making progress,in my opinion No chance, under Slade the type of football we are watching is dire and I honestly believe we will get relegated under him next season. We stayed up this year due to some of the quality we have still managed to keep, but bit by bit the squad is losing that that quality and thats why Ipswich beat us.
I have enjoyed about 3 games under Slade,Watford and Ipswich away stand out for me
At home its been worse than awful.
We are currently 13th in the Championship

If slade stays next season we have no chance of going up.
He can't motivate and he is tactically inept. He stubbornly refuses to utilise academy players. His signings with the exception of Kennedy and McAleny have been distinctly average.
We'll be bottom 6 at best next season with gates of 10,000 unless Slade is replaced. Bring in Bellamy or upcoming manager like Paul Tidsdale of Exeter.

How can u possible say that slade wont take us up just read what the statement said slade come in squad was fucked. No motavation no drive no team just individuals who where fucked after running round for 5 minutes. Slade has in my eyes had to rebuild the squad because at that present time they werent worthy of playing in league 1 even tho the championship. Since march when been averaging 2 points a game thats promotion and hes has finished with the squad and the they are still gelling. We have gone from having 20% possession to have 60% most games. This team next year will be fighting for promotion fact.

It's not all doom and gloom if we don't go Up. After the shit we've been through last few years, I'm happy spending a few years battling it out in the championship whilst things patch over. We all need to start being realistic

No doubt about it Slades WILL take us down!

Anybody who thinks this squad of players will go down next season needs to wake up and jump off the band wagon bus. If Slade was here start of season instead of Ole,the big i am ex man utd player. Then play offs might be now on agenda. He was not my choice but ill get behind him

How can you say we would have gone down under Ole and that we haven't made progress under Slade. The fact that we cannot be relegated shows progress even if the football hasn't been good.
I'm not a Slade fan but being realistic I cannot see anyone better wanting to work for our crackpot owner.
