Cardiff Vs Bristol City

Thu Apr 16, 2015 7:47 pm

One thing to look forward to next year, it also shows how quick things change in football and why should never give up hope. Few years ago the clubs looked miles apart, while Bristol were smashing up pubs in frustration, watching dire football and heading for relegation the bluebirds were flying high with a superior stadium and crowds that would sometimes double what the worzells would get at a crumbling Ashton gate.

Two years on Ashton gate is being developed and a hungry young side will now represent Bristol City in the Championship. Despite Cardiff attracting bigger crowds and having more success than their neighbours over the last 7 or 8 years I have always felt they are a similar size club to us and can't wait to get back to this one!!

It's great to have a derby game, do you share this view or is it just another game?

I'm looking forward to the away fixture. I hope there's no restrictions and its a Saturday 3pm kickoff.

It's by no means anywhere near as big as our derby with Swansea, but it's a derby to look forward to none the less :ayatollah:

to be honest to fans of a certain age both games against the Bristol teams were always considered our big derbies :old: :bluescarf:

Yes Bristol is bigger derby unless you are under age of 15! :laughing6:

Our 'derbys' are against clubs forty miles away from us!

Cardiff City vs Bristol City is by far a way bigger derby than the Jacks, far more history between Cardiff and Bristol, and in distance Cardiff is at least 10 miles closer boarder to boarder to Bristol, about 34 miles :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :bluescarf:

I enjoy playing the wurzels but its not really a big thing these days. Remember just 6,800 turned out at the CCS for a cup replay against them in 2010. But still a good atmosphere that night despite the small crowd.

Would love to play Newport away in the cup next season. If we were playing in the same league, I think that would top the lot

As i pointed out swansea is a very recent event only since they went into championship , before that hardly mentioned regarding them as rivals ect ect, whilst both Bristol clubs were classed as rivals since i was 13! Thats 45yrs of rivalry :laughing6:

Swansea for me is the biggest but this game isn't far behind. My first Bristol game was when Trundle played for them at Ninian Park so who wouldn't enjoy that day?!

Always remember an away game at Eastville against the Rovers in about 1983, went on a special train and recall thousands of city fans making the journey, think we won 1-0 it was a glorious hot day, a few bricks thrown over the back gate and that was it mayhem , took a good clout on the head from an old wooden truncheon while trying to scale the gate....days of no responsibility but always remember that trip to Bristol Rovers.

Can't open the gate these days never mind scale one! :old:

They hate us probably as more than Swansea do, I'd love to get them in the cup
