DO YOU WANT LE FONDRE BACK AT CARDIFF NEXT SEASON?

BOLTON WANDERERS

Thurs 16th April 2015

"God knows how many goals Le Fondre would have if he'd been here all season," says Wanderers boss, Lennon

Le Fondre “I have had no contact from Cardiff so I don’t know what will happen in the summer,” he said. “But I am enjoying my football.

Adam Le Fondre has been a success at Wanderers

by Marc Iles

IF Wanderers manage to tempt Adam Le Fondre back to the Macron Stadium next season, Neil Lennon believes he could have a 20-goal striker on his hands.

The on-loan Cardiff City star is now level pegging with Craig Davies on seven goals with three games left to claim the Golden Boot award.

Not many would back against him, including the Whites boss who fought hard to get the 28-year-old to the club in January ahead of Championship rivals Huddersfield Town.

Le Fondre has been a success since leaving behind an unhappy chapter in his career at Cardiff but faces a return to South Wales in the summer with no guarantee of regular football under Russell Slade.

Lennon hinted that he would like to bring him back to Bolton and believes he could improve the striker’s game, given the opportunity.

“He’s got seven goals for us now but God knows how many he’d have if he’d been with us from the start,” he told The Bolton News. But having said that, I think he can get better.

“There are aspects of his game that are a little bit off the pace at times.

“For example, Barry Bannan hit a beauty of a ball in the first minute against Charlton and you’re thinking ‘touch and finish’ and if he’s a little sharper, it’s a goal. He got one and he’s always there or thereabouts, he’s a very good striker.

“But if he is with us next season – which may or may not happen – then we will endeavour to make him better in general but definitely get more goals out of him.”

Le Fondre revealed he would be open to a return to Bolton after scoring twice against Millwall last month – but much will depend on the financial situation both here and in South Wales.

“I have had no contact from Cardiff so I don’t know what will happen in the summer,” he said. “But I am enjoying my football.

“I think the gaffer would like to bring me here. If you score goals, the fans love you and I want to be loved.

“I am a striker and strikers are meant to be heroes. That’s what I want to be.”

Meanwhile, Mark Davies’s return to action after a five-month lay-off has whet Lennon’s appetite for next season.

The Wanderers boss will ease the midfielder into regular football over the next three games against Brentford, Bournemouth and Birmingham City but wants him fully fit by the time his players reconvene in the summer.

“He’s been out for a while and there’s a bit of rust there,” he said. “We were reluctant to throw him in early because he hasn’t played much football.

“But it’s great to see him back. He’s a fantastic asset to have and we’ve missed him.

“Hopefully he can play some part in the remainder of our games so we can get him full fit for next season. He’s a quality player and if we can get a few players in and around him, we’ll be a lot more potent going forward.”

Even though Wanderers’ progress slowed significantly during February and March, only nine other teams have taken more points since the day Lennon walked through the doors.

And Lennon is confident that if his side can avoid bad luck with injuries which has plagued them since the New Year, next season will be a much stronger showing in the Championship.

“We’re looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead,” he said. “We’ve reached the 50-point mark and it’s taken us a bit longer than we’d have expected. But there have been mitigating circumstances.

“When you see what’s coming back player-wise, it whets your whistle.

“You look at what’s out there on the pitch – Adam Bogdan, Tim Ream, Matt Mills, Neil Danns, Eidur Gudjohnsen, Emile Heskey, it’s the core of a decent squad, I think.”

He,s wasted here which is sad. Slades dinosaur style of play kills attacking players, he,ll move on Imo.

It was by no means all to do with kenwyne and the hoof ball his inclusion forced on us. Alf lost all his confidence. He missed loads of easy chances. Whitts and Ralls will find players like Mason, Doyle and McAleny with good passes, which suggests it was more down to Alf' s mental state, away from his family.

Another example of how poor Slade and Young are at getting the best out of players.

the guy has proven over the years he can score - but looked dire in our side. I couldnt quite work it out.

I remember being at St Andrews earlier this year and he missed a sitter from 2 yards which would have won the game - cant blame Slade totally for that but something wasnt right

It would be quite easy to blame Slade, however wasn't he also poor under OGS, who you would think being a former striker of the highest calibre would have got goals out of him. Didn't I read somewhere that he's now back with his family up north where their from? It could be the simple fact that he is now happier and more relaxed in his personal life, which is enabling him to concentrate on his football more

This above - Sometimes it don't work out for a striker and I am sure we can name quite a few.

that explanation begs the question why he was bought in the first place.

Doesn't things like living arrangements get considered when conducting multi-million pound deals? Obviously not at Cardiff!

Wasn't he just as far away from his family at Reading?

I hope he comes back and carries on next season with his confidence boosted by the Bolton loan.

Its pathetic to Blame Slade for his lack of goals he missed a lot of easy chances, if he scores them he stays its that simple! Lots players improve when move clubs, but take Torres fantastic at pool went to Chelsea was useless was that down to chelsea manager? Like said pathetic to keep blaming Slade for every little thing at club!

He will come back, go through a whole pre season and if his form outweighs his wages or any fee we can get then he will stay.

Have a look at his goal scoring record.....I think we are all duped at the hype because he scored so many as a sub in the premier league.
Reading must have knew there were problems with him to allow him to go to a competitor. I know they were downsizing but it does make you think.

The hotels and driving must have taken its toll in addition to the total basket case that is Cardiff City FC..... Hope he continues to score, Bolton must have some money left. Otherwise there are a lot of club north of Brum

Strikers feed off confidence and scoring goals, I'm pleased he's done well at Bolton however I would take what money we can and move on building for the future.

PS agree with Pembroke Allan, you can blame Slade as he gave him a good run of games and did nothing not sure what else the manager is supposed to do!

He was poor under OGS and Russell Slade so it certainly can't be the manager. He just doesn't look settled with us and a lot more at home at Bolton. I'd have super Joe Mason over him anyday. Showed so much promise but let us all down, but I'm used to that with this club. Can't see him here next season but no big loss. See ya

He'll never score goals for us. Like so many others before him. May as well get what we can for him but, unfortunately, Bolton are just as strapped as we are.

I would say he wasn't that great at Reading before he joined us, so yes maybe it was a problem there as well

A proven goalscorer in this division - sadly did not get the goals to games played for us.

Has a much better goals to starts for BOLTON - Can't work out why it did not happen here,as he had plenty of chances.

Championship

11/12 12 goals 32 games
13/14 15 goals 38 games
14/15 8 goals 31 games

Good but not a 20 goal man

Bluebirds as he reveals club has made no contact since Bolton loan move

Le Fondre moved to Bolton on loan in January and says Neil Lennon wants to keep him at the Macron Stadium

Cardiff City striker Adam Le Fondre has given his clearest indication yet he has played his last ever game for the Bluebirds.

The 28-year-old revealed he has had no contact with Cardiff manager Russell Slade since he went out on loan to Bolton in January and has been left in the dark over whether he has a future in the Welsh capital or not.

Le Fondre believes Wanderers boss Neil Lennon wants him to remain at the Macron Stadium next season after firing seven goals in 13 starts since joining them. He managed just three in 25 appearances for the Bluebirds.

“I have had no contact from Cardiff so I don’t know what will happen in the summer, but I am enjoying my football at Bolton,” said Le Fondre.
