Russell Slade: I’m the man to take Cardiff to the Premier League
BY CHARLIE FIRTH ⋅ APRIL 15, 2015 ⋅
Cardiff City boss Russell Slade says he is the man to take the Bluebirds back to the Premier League.
Slade was hired whilst he was at League One side Leyton Orient, who now appear to be struggling without him, to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after Cardiff’s extremely disappointing start to the season.
He’s now coming under fire from the City faithful, who believe he’s made very little difference to the side.
The aim for Cardiff was always promotion this season, after finishing bottom of the pile in the top flight last season, and after a barrage of signings last summer, none of them are performing as expected.
Despite links with other managers, Slade firmly believes he is the man to take Cardiff back to the Premier League, telling Wales Online: “What we are doing is taking shape, we are building slowly, but surely.
“It’s been a testing time, but we have won as many as we have lost. The expectations from last season to try and return to the Premier League makes it more difficult and many fans want a big name at Cardiff to try and ensure they do that.
“There is no doubt that our aim is to be in the top six next season. That’s where we want to be and that is a target we believe we can achieve.
“The average finish for a team after relegation from the Premier League is about mid-table and then they go again. But we’ve seen before when teams continue to go downwards. You have to regroup and sometimes those who don’t have paid the price.
“Wolves paid the price and now somebody like Wigan could be paying the price.”
Cardiff City currently sit in 13th place in the Sky Bet Championship, and have accrued 55 points from 43 league games.

he'll need some good strikers and midfielders for a promotion push, does that mean the club plans to spend money in the transfer window?
I'm confused

I thought they were trying to cut their cloth accordingly

Sorry to burst your bubble Russell, but your really not the man to take us to the Premiership. The fans know it, Dalman knows it deep down i suspect. The only person who doesn't know it is VT.

That's a bold statement

Very bold statement IMO,
With the right players and if they gel then why not. Take Bournemouth for example, great team effort. Oh hang on they can score though, I don't believe he will take us up next season but I hope he proves me wrong.

It's possible, I see us fighting for top six next year.
If only fans would have patience.....

Russell Slade chats shit, he's all mouth but his team does nothing to back up any of his claims.
Tactically he doens't have a clue whats going on and his ideas are from the 1990s when everyone played 442...

He talks a good game....
Malky had a season to suss what to do. He changed from 442 to a 451 so sacrificed a striker (Mason) to allow Whitts a free role. He had a plan, I don't expect Russ to tell us that plan, perhaps the trust do

, but I haven't seen anything from us to suggest we are one piece of the jigsaw away from a good campaign next season.
If we let Jones,ALF,Maynard,Fabio leave there is close to £5 million a year in salary gone. We are no better or worse than the Jones Alf partnership.
Alf has scored a lot of goals for bolton, so we should get a decent fee, the only problem is I think he needs to be in the north west to be happy (and scoring) living in hotel rooms and miles of driving upsets these players especially when they are financially comfortable compared to the rest of us in the real world.
I have a horrible feeling Slade is staying. I have started to get used to that notion. I don't think it could be any worse. Relegation is not the end of the world

He talks a good game....
Does he, I cringe every time I hear him speak.

I'm prepared to give him a year, lets see what happens

If he gets more pace in the side through the middle who knows and a tough tackling midfielder maybe we will progress up the table, I personally would like him make me eat my hat as I don't rate him at all.

That Yardstick catchphrase of his is ridiculous, he talks like he's in a black and white film

I have seen absolutely nothing from any single team performance since he became manager to suggest we will even be in the top half of the table next year.
I hope he got a better plan and tactics for next year or we are screwed

It is a surprising statement. I believe that he won't get anywhere near promotion. It is difficult because fairness would say give him a chance to prove he is the manager that he says he is. But I honestly believe that if he stays for the start of next years campaign then he will spend 3 months and end up sacking him at or before Cheistmas because of dire results.
In that case the season will be wasted and the new manager will be tasked with keeping us up.
Sorry to be so negative, and I hope that RS can prove me totally wrong!
