" Cardiff City player ratings v Ipswich Town: The verdict on the Bluebirds in defeat in Suffolk "

By Chris Wathan

Chris Wathan delivers his verdict as Cardiff City are beaten 3-1 during Tuesday night's Championship clash at Portman Road

Cardiff City could not extend their decent run of away form after coming unstuck against Ipswich at Portman Road.

The Bluebirds were on the wrong end of a 3-1 scoreline after equalising through Eoin Doyle following the concession of a goal inside 10 minutes.

In truth they were well-beaten by Mick McCarthy's side who now look well set to secure a play-off place as the Championship nears its conclusion.

So who were the Bluebirds' best and who didn't turn up against the Tractor Boys?

Chris Wathan was at the game and delivers his verdict on the players below. Meanwhile you can rate the players yourself in the voting form at the bottom.

STAR MAN

DAVID MARSHALL: Little chance with either goal thanks to a slight deflection on first and the fierceness of the second but showed Premier League form with reflex saves to deny Murphy and then Smith. 8

LEE PELTIER: Didn't really stop Ipswich making any inroads down his side, distribution poor but stuck to guns and tried to make life difficult for opponents. 6

SEAN MORRISON: Struggled with Daryl Murphy to begin with but did settle down and managed to help Cardiff steady themselves at the back without ever really impressing. 6

BRUNO MANGA: A shaky start that got progressively worse. Horribly done for the first, needless contribution to second and generally woeful by own standards. 4

SCOTT MALONE: Remains unconvincing on back foot but showed what can do with ball when he opts not to go aimlessly high. Partnership with Ralls benefited each other. 7

JOE RALLS: Cardiff's jack of all trades looked very tidy out wide, intelligent enough to rotate positions to cover and make space. Saved by Marshall after mistake on ball. 7

ARON GUNNARSSON: Very slow start to proceedings where he failed to get to grips with game around him and disappointing use of the ball before horrible miss at end. 5

PETER WHITTINGHAM: Looked busy without being breathtaking, keeping himself involved and helping to switch play while was able to dig in against in-form Ipswich middle two. 7

FABIO: Pushed up to play on the right of midfield but did so without any real conviction and guilty of missing a real chance following lovely Bluebirds move before trying to petulantly fight the world. 5

JOE MASON: Played just behind Doyle and while not everything came off it was obvious he has the natural game to create when given the right service. 7

EOIN DOYLE: Made sure he pressed high and hard and was not going to waste the one real chance that came his way. Signs of growing understanding with Mason. 7
