RUSSELL SLADE: "TOP 6 PLACE FOR CARDIFF NEXT SEASON"

" Cardiff City boss Russell Slade says 3-1 result was 'harsh' on Bluebirds as he outlines desire to keep hold of top players "

The Bluebirds manager reflected on a 3-1 defeat against a home team who strengthened their bid to qualify for the Championship play-offs this season

Russell Slade underlined his belief that Cardiff City can follow Ipswich Town’s example a year from now.

The Bluebirds manager reflected on a 3-1 defeat against a home team who strengthened their bid to qualify for the Championship play-offs this season.

Slade dismissed questions about fears that big name players could be leaving in the summer, saying: “We are trying to build.

“Our two main aims on the football front is to achieve a sustainable level and build.

“The target is to be competitive enough next season to win a top six place and be where Ipswich are now.

“They are a good yardstick. You learn where you are against these teams in the top group. At times we were very close to them and produced some enterprising play.

“It was a decent team performance and 3-1 was a little harsh on us. We were well in the game, created a few chances and had a great opportunity to make it 2-2.

“We were disappointed with one or two individual errors.

“But we also played some good football against a top six team.

“Our attitude throughout was excellent and those in the Ipswich technical area were clearly worried by the way we were playing and what we were doing.

“It was important we put bodies on the line against an Ipswich team who are relentless and direct. The players did that.

“We had to win second balls and did that before springing at them, particularly in wide areas.”

Slade selected Fabio in a wide midfield position, but he was taken off during the second half when he was booked following a clash with Tyrone Mings.

“We have tried out one or two things recently and that was one of them,” said Slade. “Craig Noone felt a bit tight after the win at Leeds and we didn’t want to risk anything.

“We took Fabio off as a precaution after he was cautioned. We were still right in the game and it was the right time to send Craig on.”

I agree 3-1 flattered Ipswich tbh we just don't have that extra quality at the moment but onwards and upwards. :thumbright:

I personally see us as a battling relegation side next season.

I hope I am totally wrong.

I've seen nothing in the last 10 games that suggests a top 6 finish next season, Even picking up results we have been poor and I fear the summer transfer window will see us lose more talent and replaced with more bargain basement players.

completely and utterly deluded.

I think fans have to be careful of using the term 'bargain' for Slade signings when the jury is out on whether they indeed are bargains or just cheap.

Anyone care to mention of a player signed so far that looks to of increased there transfer value significantly?

  very true! would be easier to have answers on that one for the history of CCFC, not just a Slade transfer window :notworthy:

Which of Slades signings in your opinion has increased their transfer value or is looking likely to increase their transfer value then?

Annis

I totally agree! looking again at last night I see Manga, Whitts, Gunnar, Marshall and Noone leave at the end of the season. RS will go into the bargain basement and we will have no quality at all. Joe Lewis will come back from Blackpool where he's had loads of practice so thats 1 less wage bill to find. The summer will be CRUCIAL otherwise it could be back to League 1 the year after. RS is delusional if he thinks wecan achieve a top 6 place next year. Clearly he forgot about 3 resonably strong sides coming down who don't have owners that destabilise the club as well. It will be interesting to say the least!

Slade should just keep quiet really as he's just digging a bigger hole for himself with his deluded comments.

Everyone knows that the club is pimping out every player on a high wage (except perhaps Whittingham for some reason) and that we will more than likely start next season with a team of journeyman players signed on the cheap from lower league clubs.

Now that's fair enough if that's what needs to happen but don't give us the top 6 nonsense.

And if you want to turn it on it's head, why is he talking about top 6? Why is he limiting his ambition to being in the top 6?
Why isn't he saying that our aim for next season is to be in the top 2?

Maybe because even Slade isn't that deluded! :laughing6:

trying a one or two things is excellent but how about trying something new in the positions we have struggled in all season ie central midfield, give Ralls, Ademeyi and O'Keeffe a run out, see if they can do it. I can accept the loss at this stage of the season if we had learnt something but we haven't.

Kennedy can be termed a bargain but we don't know the fee paid as it's undisclosed. He has talent and is young and will improve. The club have done well to sign him. :ayatollah:

All the others there value would not have risen in my opinion. Cheap signings
