Millwall Football Club is an English professional football club based in New Cross,[1] south-east London, that plays in the Football League Championship, the second tier of English football. Founded as Millwall Rovers in 1885, the club has retained its name despite having last played in the Millwall area of the Isle of Dogs in 1910. From then until 1993 the club played at The Den, a now-demolished stadium in New Cross, before moving to its current home stadium nearby, also called The Den.

The traditional club crest is a lion rampant, referred to in the team's nickname "The Lions". Millwall's traditional kit consists of blue shirts, white shorts and blue socks. Millwall have a long-standing rivalry with West Ham United. The local derby between the two sides has been contested almost 100 times since 1899. In the media, Millwall's supporters have often been associated with hooliganism, with numerous films having been made fictionalising their notoriety. The fans are renowned for their chant "No one likes us, we don't care" which is sung to the tune of Sailing by Rod Stewart.

In 2004, the team reached the final of the FA Cup and, in doing so, qualified for the UEFA Cup the following season, playing in Europe for the first time in their history. The club has also reached FA Cup semi-finals on another four occasions, in 1900, 1903, 1937 and 2013. Millwall have spent the majority of their existence competing in the second or third tier of the Football League. The team spent two seasons in the top flight between 1988–90, in which the club achieved its highest ever finish of tenth place in the First Division. Based on all results during the club's 87 seasons in the Football League from 1920–21 to 2013–14, Millwall are ranked as the 40th most successful club in English football.

Millwall manager gives injury update on Shaun Williams ahead of tricky Cardiff City trip

Wed 15 April 2015

By Brad Pinard

Millwall manager Neil Harris confirmed midfielder Shaun Williams is likely to miss Saturday’s game with Cardiff.

‘That was a Millwall performance’ Neil Harris hails passionate Den display against Wigan
Battling Millwall still alive after dramatic Wigan win in feisty Den clash

The impressive general limped off in the first half of Tuesday night’s vital 2-0 win over Wigan and left the ground on crutches.

Central partner Ed Upson was sent off in the second half of the game and will also miss Saturday’s trip to Cardiff so Harris has some big decisions to make as the Lions eye another huge result.

The win over Wigan keeps their survival hopes alive and Harris doesn’t see Williams’ injury as too much of a hindrance.

“He walked in on crutches, as a precaution,” Harris said.

“Obviously anybody who walks in on a Tuesday night game on crutches is struggling for Saturday.

“I have got some good players in my squad who can step in.

“I had 24 fit first team players to choose from tonight, and that’s excluding a very talented under-21 side who are unbeaten in nine games.

“So we have got depth in the squad. Sometimes one players’ misfortune is another ones gain, and that may be the case on Saturday.”

Millwall face trips to Cardiff and Blackburn in the next six days and getting results at both grounds is a must as they look to avoid the drop.

Any decision on Rotherham’s point deduction will also have a big effect on the squad, but four wins from four now would surely keep Millwall up.

Millwall boss Neil Harris has confirmed that Shaun Williams is out for their clash against Cardiff after suffering a foot injury against Wigan last night, reports ClubCall.

Harris will have to wait to find out the extent of the injury
Despite the Lions manager ruling him out of their fixture at the Cardiff City Stadium the London club are still unsure on the extent of his injury.

The 28-year-old left the Den on crutches whilst wearing a protective boot after their vital 2-0 win over fellow relegation fighters Wigan Athletic.

The midfielder suffered the blow after sliding into an advertising board, despite bravely attempting to play on, he was subbed off before half time.

Despite this worrying news, the Lions fans went home happy last night after they kept their survival hopes alive with a the over the Latics.

But it was an eventful evening with Williams’ central partner, Ed Upson, getting sent off, which means he will also miss the trip to Wales.

Despite the absentees, Harris will have to remain upbeat in this dog fight because the Lions have not won in their last four trips to Cardiff, with their last win coming in 2005.

" What the managers say ahead of Cardiff City/Millwall this Saturday. "

Cardiff:  Russell Slade has encouraged unity between the club and its supporters in the aftermath of the Cardiff City Supporters Trust’s request for the club to improve its engagement with the fans.

Slade said: “You do want everybody trying to pull in the same direction. That’s important for any success. My priority is the football, the players and dealing with that. Any off-the-field thing has to be dealt with by the relevant parties.”

Millwall:  Interim manager Neil Harris is confident his side can avoid relegation. “If the players continue to perform like they are then we have a chance,” said Harris, whose job could be made a little easier if relegation rivals Rotherham are deducted points for fielding an ineligible player.

He added: “I came in with the initial task of trying to put a belief back into the squad that was a little bit low because results had not been great. There is a good bunch of fellas in that dressing room that just needed a little guidance.”

Cardiff have a had a frustrating return to Championship football, following their relegation from the Premier League last year, but they could end the season on a high.

After Millwall, the Bluebirds face bottom of the table Blackpool and fellow mid-table side Nottingham Forest as they look to leave their supporters optimistic ahead the 2015-2016 campaign.

Cardiff's home form is a cause for concern though as they have won just one of their last eight in front of their own supporters, and lost 3-0 to Bolton Wanderers on Easter Monday.

They hit back with a 2-1 win away at Leeds United in their next game, but lost 3-1 to Ipswich Town last time out.

Their patchy form is typical of a mid-table side, but if they can pick up some solid points between now and the end of the season then they may be able to climb from their current position of 13th into the top half.

Promotion will the target for Russell Slade next year, and he will be keen to improve his squad over the summer to build a side which is capable of competing for a return to the Premier League.

Millwall may be the marginal favourites to win this game, despite their torrid season which has left them in serious danger of going down to League One.

However, momentum does funny things in football and the Lions will be buoyed by their 2-0 victory over Wigan Athletic on Tuesday which has given them a chance of preserving their Championship status.

Victory in South Wales would put the Lions just two points behind Rotherham United, who occupy 21st in the league, and the Millers don't play this weekend.

Their scheduled game with Reading has been arranged as the Royals play Arsenal in the FA Cup semi-finals on Saturday afternoon.

However, if Millwall are going to overtake them in the league then victory at Cardiff is essential as they finish the season with games against top-half side Blackburn Rovers, and playoff hopefuls Derby County and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

They have lost just one of their last five games, but haven't won away from home since they beat Birmingham City 1-0 in February.

Millwall assisstant: First goal will reveal Cardiff mindset
by Alex Aldridge

April 17, 2015

DAVE Livermore believes scoring the first goal could prove crucial for Millwall when they travel to Cardiff City tomorrow.
The mid-table Bluebirds have nothing left to play for this season whereas the Lions, who beat Wigan in midweek, desperately need another three points in their fight for survival.
With the pressure off, care-free Cardiff could relax and produce their best performance of the campaign – or roll over easily if Millwall come out all guns blazing.

And Livermore, who is assisting interim boss Neil Harris, said: "The key to games like this is generally the first goal – that usually tells you a lot about the teams in mid-table.
"For the ones that don't have anything to play for, if you go a goal behind you quickly find out whether they're up for it or not. That'll be important for us at the weekend.
"Cardiff are a massive club who were in the Premier League not so long ago and they've got some very good players.
"We've seen them recently play with full-backs in wide positions away at Ipswich but we don't anticipate that they'd do that at home.
"Players like Craig Noone and Anthony Pilkington could come back into the fold to give them an attacking threat, so they're a good side.
"The first 20 minutes and possibly the first goal – a bit like in any game – will be really, really important."
Livermore says fitness levels in Millwall's squad are being carefully managed following Tuesday's draining clash with the Latics.
"We need to get as much recovery time into the players as we can," he explained.
"Yesterday they had a second-day recovery session with very, very minimal work outside.
"This morning was a little more tactical and we got some information into the guys regarding Cardiff, but we're mindful of how long we're on our feet.
"We need to be fully-recovered in time for Saturday."
