My View/Opinion " NEVER GAVE UP A BATTLING CARDIFF CITY BUT IT JUST WASN'T TO BE "

But I was proud of them tonight :thumbright:

Just lacking that little bit of quality in the finishing that was the difference.

Ipswich Town 3 Cardiff City 1

Crowd 17,722 (197 away fans)

TEAM NEWS : Marshall, Peltier, Malone, Ecuele Manga, Morrison, Whittingham, Gunnarsson, Fabio, Ralls, Doyle, Mason.

Subs: Moore, Adeyemi, O'Keefe, Kennedy, Harris, Noone, Pilkington.

Three players stood out for me tonight, Scott Malone, Joe Mason and I can't believe I am saying this but Peter Whittingham also he was everywhere throughout the game and was superb in a high tempo game.

Game started off even for the first 5 mins but in 7th minute our defence went missing and Bruno Manga in particular was at fault for Ipswich to open the scoring. 1-0 Ipswich. :o :(

In the 12th minute a great cross in from Scott Malone was met by Eoin Doyle who equalised for City, our fans went mental. 1-1 :thumbright:

The goal completely silenced the Ipswich crowd.

For the next ten minutes City held their own and the home crowd were starting to turn on their players.

Doyle and Mason were working hard up front and causing Ipswich problems. :thumbright:

Then after a few minutes of Ipswich pressure another mistake by Bruno Manga, who failed to clear the ball properly from the edge of the box, left Skuse to shoot from 25 yards and fire a thunderbolt past Marshall in the 29th minute to give Ipswich a 2-1 lead. :(

Just a minute later and a Whittingham free kick saw the ball in the Ipswich net but was disallowed.

For the first 40 mins Manga was having a shocker, not anywhere near his usual standards.

In the 41st minute Mason put an excellent ball across the box but three City players missed the chance for an easy tap in.

3 mins injury time for the first half.

Another Manga mistake lead to a late corner deep into injury time, Whittingham cleared the corner. :o

I was impressed by City in the first half and they really gave Ipswich a run for their money :thumbright: the main difference between the sides I would say is that Ipswich were a bit sharper and more clinical up front than us.

The second half started and again City took the game to Ipswich and were looking to go on the attack, the game settled down and it was again even Stevens but in the 60th min there was a scuffle involving many players from both sides, Fabio reacted badly to a challenge and got booked along with an Ipswich player, Slade in fairness made the right decision and substituted Fabio for Noone, the home crowd were furious with the ref as they believed that Fabio should have been sent off.

73rd min Pilkington replaced Joe Ralls.

83rd min and Gunnarsson missed a sitter. :o

84th min Kadeem Harris on for Eoin Doyle.

Manga never improved in the second half and had his worst game for city.

93rd minute and City concede a third goal but we didn't deserve to lose 3-1 :(

All the players came over at the end of the game and most of the players gave their shirts away to the fans  :bluescarf:

Just got back in the car for the long journey home to South Wales.

Fair play to the 197 hardy souls who made this 10 hour round trip on a Tuesday Night, tonight reminded me of the good old days with just virtually the hardcore City fans travelling away.

My Man of the Match Peter Whittingham

Next up Millwall at home this Saturday :thumbright:

Cheers for the report. Great to hear the team is fighting so hard when there's nothing to play for. It's all we ask for.

Fair play Annis, you always give an honest opinion and give credit where it's due. I was expecting the knives to be out for Slade on this forum tonight, so your post is refreshing to see. :thumbright:

I have just got in having a brew. Agree with most of Annis's analysis. They weren't
Much better than us. We had 2 golden chances with Fabio an Mason going close. How they are in a playoff position I don't know.

197 for a Tuesday night in Ipswich is not a bad crowd if you consider our last journey there 2 seasons ago which was on a Saturday and we only took 225 then.

Just got back to East London, good to see you Annis, hope Dibs claimed the boot space for the way home  Tonight's game showed how little quality we now have out on the pitch, no game changers. It sums it up when we play a full back (Fabio) as an attacking winger and he invigorates everything up front. Alright, he couldn't finish, but at least he introduced some urgency to the forward play, which has been lacking for over two years.
For me, Slade is still not the man to take us forward, please bring in Carl Robinson, give that guy some money and he could turn the club around

Big Ceri,we matched them in most positions, they just had that bit more class in finishing, plus Manga had a shocker.

I do agree we lacked in quality, but I was impressed in how we never ever gave up and took the game to them :thumbright:
As to Slade staying as my manager not my choice either.

Agreed. Manga was woeful he let Murphy bully him all game. He was at fault for their first goal. The second goal was a screamer and their third we got caught chasing the game1

Ceri, its the first time Ive seen Manga,frustrated/fuming and beaten to the ball so much.
The second goal was a screamer and I agree about the 3rd,the score line flattered Ipswich.

A shame we shipped in that last goal, but rather than be disappointed I am happy with the lads for a good lot of work done at the game. good to come back level.

We only went to 3-1 because they were working so hard to get back from 2-1 and I completely agree that the difference between 2-1 and 3-1 is pretty much nothing (still no points) it was worth risking that to try and get a point out of it

that second ipswich goal though... phhhwooaarr

The 3rd goal by Ipswich, really did not tell the real story. At one stage I honestly thought we would get at least a draw,we deserved.

I thought Gunnarsson was particularly good last night. Apart from his regular determined play his distribution and interplay with attackers was impressive. He was far better than Whittingham last night who generally was quiet. Gunnar and Mason were the stand out players for me and last night showed how useful Joe could have been all season. :ayatollah:

Managed to get a radio feed from overseas through Radio Sussex.

Interesting that the commentator praised Cardiff for their passing game and stated that Slade and City supporters should
be looking forward to next season as the team, on their performance at Portman Rd, will definitely be promotion
contenders
