City boss Russell Slade: I know many fans want a big name manager but I can take us back to Premier League

Cardiff City manager Russell Slade has insisted the club can mount a promotion challenge next season despite a campaign of cost-cutting and poor performances during his time at the Bluebirds.
The former Orient boss, who took the reins from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in October, has spoken frankly and openly about plans for 2015-16 and his hopes of launching a concerted effort to return Cardiff to the Premier League.
Outlining his aims for next season Slade says:
* Many fans want a ‘big name’ to take charge, but insists he is building a squad who will be capable of finishing in the top six.
* It was crucial Cardiff took time to regroup after relegation to avoid paying the price of dropping for a second time like Wolves and, possibly, Wigan this season
* He is adamant former Cardiff captain Kevin Ratcliffe is ‘way off the mark’ when he says the current squad would struggle to survive in the Championship next season.
The Bluebirds are currently in 12th spot with four Championship matches to go, starting with a tough trip to Ipswich tomorrow night.
“What we are doing is taking shape, we are building slowly, but surely,” said Slade.
“It’s been a testing time, but we have won as many as we have lost. The expectations from last season to try and return to the Premier League makes it more difficult and many fans want a big name at Cardiff to try and ensure they do that.
“There is no doubt that our aim is to be in the top six next season. That’s where we want to be and that is a target we believe we can achieve.
“The average finish for a team after relegation from the Premier League is about mid-table and then they go again. But we’ve seen before when teams continue to go downwards. You have to regroup and sometimes those who don’t have paid the price.
“Wolves paid the price and now somebody like Wigan could be paying the price.”
Slade also reacted to the comments by ex-Wales defender Ratcliffe that Cardiff’s current squad would not survive in the Championship next season, saying: “Saying this squad wouldn’t survive is over the top. People are entitled to their opinion, but no, I don’t agree.”

I don't want a big name.... I want somebody from this generation of tactics....442 will always get exposed with the way the laws of the game have changed.

Exactly the guy managing Norwich isn't a big name and he's done well with them thus far because he's not from 1998

All I will say is slades football actually is very boring its dire on times and yea a change of manager is needed next season if we are to progress . I no slades had his hands tied but the thought of slade next season is why so many aint renewing lack of ambition by ccfc im afraid.

This is a really interesting debate...
Big Name Manager - NO they come at a high price, they want to bring all their own people and players in, we need stability and managable squad and playing budget. In fairness to Slade he has spent most of this seasoning unpicking the damage Ole did in buying players with no idea of how they would play together
New Way of Playing - YES as we have been boring to watch, although we were boring to watch under Malkey the only difference in our playoff season we won the first 10 games then we had momentum behind us. I think most fans want to win and that's the issue the current team are facing.
Next year - c'mon lets all unite and get behind our team and our manager and our chairman. I can't help feel but there are certain elements of our 'fans' who just want us to fail at the moment and don't give Slade and the team credit for what has been a difficult season.

I agree but to his credit he didn't play a 4-4-2 on Saturday.
It seemed to work so let's hope he has the sense to try it again even without McAnuly.

He has hopes of making an effort? You either make an effort or you don't! Poor journalism that.

I take it was 4411. Adds a bit to the midfield especially away. 2 out and out strikers is hard to get away with nowadays unless your 4 can match their 5 this is where Whitts, Gunnar, Noone and Kennedy will struggle. Pilkington (remember him) gave us a bit more physicality.

Slade knows us so well, not
Maybe we just want a manager with ability and not a dinosaur

We dont want a big name we want someone who can produce consistent results, he's had his time and cannot provide.

Only have to look at Bournemouth and their coaching set up, all unknowns but with a modern outlook on the game and a football style that their whole squad and club and fans have bought in too.
Unfortunately under Slade this will never happen, though he has not done bad, next season will be a different story and playing the style he wants to play will be relegation. Cardiff City FC to0 Vincent Tan is small change and just a play thing to have fun with.
A good upcoming young manager with a good outlook on the game rather than your Pulis, Hughes, Mackay, Redknapp et el is what is needed to put some new life into the club. As the film saying goes "Build it and they will come"
My opinion.

Based on what we've seen in the last 10 games, I'd say he could in a few seasons.
We need consistency to help us push up the table and get promoted. Here's hoping for a top ten finish this year (9th looks viable!) and then pushing up the table for a couple of years before cheeky playoffs.
I don't feel as bad about the club's future, despite the early losses, as I did when OGS was in charge.
