" Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan pays for fans' bus fare to Ipswich after difficult season "

By Terry Phillips

Tan has made the gesture to help supporters in making the 500-mile round trip from South Wales to Suffolk on Tuesday

Cardiff City fans heading to Tuesday night’s Championship clash with Ipswich at Portman Road will have their bus fare paid by Bluebirds owner Vincent Tan.

Tan has made the gesture to help supporters in making the 500-mile round trip from South Wales to Suffolk.

There are enough seats available for a total of more than 250 City fans on the coaches with three already full. Cardiff City Supporters Club are still taking bookings.

“It’s a gesture by the club,” said CCSC spokesman Vince Alm.

“They said it has been a tough season and wanted to help supporters for what is a long journey in midweek. We thank them for that help.

“We have booked four coaches and welcome all fans who are eligible to buy match tickets at Ipswich to travel with us, whether or not they are supporters club members.”

Bluebirds fans were supported by the club when they staged a boycott of the match at Leeds United because of a row over away section tickets, although there were 11 supporters who officially had tickets for that area.

They were mainly fans who have not missed a match all season and included one who has attended every game, home and away, for the last 30 years.

There were also a number of City fans who bought tickets in the home areas and a number of those were moved to the away section.

Further information on CCSC coach travel to Ipswich is available from Vince Alm on 07814 779 441.

prob get shot down for saying this, but our fans should take a stance and tell him where to shove it

It's a good gesture.

Possibly could have done it for the Boro and Norwich games too, but better than nothing.

There needs to be more done to reconnect the fans and the club, a small gesture like this should be just the start

Tim, I do want our club to be closer with our fans again, but a lot of damage has been done,so its going to take a long time,a lot of hard work, plus plenty of honesty :thumbright:

Agreed Annis.
I think there is willingness there now as well and a change in attitude from the top.
From our side though we need to welcome and encourage gestures like this to show that the fans want to move forward too

It's a good gesture by Tan and IMO should be taken that way...

 geez! Some fans are just too hard to please! If tan offered to pay for the ticket as well, there would still be people moaning. :bluescarf:

I agree with this and bridges need to be built.

The rebrand was a disaster and I believe the fans deserve an apology. However I believe we are going to have to settle for Tan walking around the pitch in blue as the apology.

The fact we are good friends Annis, many people expect us to agree on everything anyway, but what you have written above is 100% true and I think it sums up everything in just a couple of lines.

You explain in a couple of lines that the fans want to love the club but because of what has happened it is difficult to do so but with honesty and effort from the club then fans are willing to give it a go and try and restore the feeling that so many have lost.

All is not lost if there is a measure of goodwill from both sides.

Hopefully it can happen :bluescarf:

It's a nice gesture but it's going to take a lot more than a free bus ride to Ipswich to repair the damage.

What like returning us to blue and changing the badge back?

Anything else?

What about on our part? It's a two way street.

Yeah it's all small steps. I will never be a fan of tan or forget about the way he treated/talked about us but at the same time I'm happy he and the club have started to realise they need to listen to us.

My opinion is that the only way this is going to be healed is for Tan to leave.

I do believe in giving someone a chance though.

A lot more. He can't just expect everything to go back to normal now that he's turned us back to blue. What Tan did is unforgivable and it's only left a huge scar in our history, it will take a good few years for things to feel the same again, and it's absolutely NOTHING to do with the football.

On our part? We do more than enough by paying around £300-400 year in year out supporting this club. I have plenty of close friends who used to be hardcore City supporters, none of them go anymore because the damage has already been done, and I don't blame them one bit. I for one can't turn my back on the club, I'm not sure what would've pushed me over the edge but I definitely felt tested.

Luckily the football has been shit enough for the club to realise that some things need to change to keep the majority of us around starting with the reverse of the rebrand, so at least things are getting better on non-footballing matters.

Good god.

Th man has done a LOT of things that are wrong... That's for damn sure

But even when he does a nice gesture like this he still gets shot down?! Absolutely I agree that when he gets things wrong, the rebrand, the lack of respect in the past, have a go at him for that. But having a pop at him for saving travelling fans money is just absurd.

The way he spoke he spoke about us was tame in comparison to how we spoke about him, while we were losing that is.
