"Faking it! See how Italian side 'covered up' low attendances with proper plastic fans

Serie B side Triestina have used vinyl posters of supporters to add atmosphere (and revenue) to their empty stadium

Italian Serie B side Triestina have taken drastic steps to give the impression of higher attendances at their 32,454 capacity Stadio Nereo Rocco...by filling the stadium with fake fans!

Before last weekend's game against Padova, the club stretched out massive vinyl posters of celebrating supporters across the 10,000 vacant seats that happened to be positioned in front of television cameras.

Triestina General Manager Marco Cernaz told news station WSJ:

“We’d love to have a full stadium with real supporters and we’ve done everything we can to get people through the gates, but the reality is that we can’t.

“This way at least we create a bit of atmosphere, a bit of theatre.”

The plan may not be as madcap as first presumed since the 'virtual crowd' has also been attracting an unexpected advertising revenue through companies willing to pay for their logos being displayed on the false terrace.

The club also claim to have saved money on insurance as well as halving the number of stewards and medical staff they need on hand."

Maybe We'll see some supporters in that top tier after all!!!! :laughing6:

Give out loads of tickets to local schools for the corner blocks and allow fans to put their flags up on the top deck seats for the season

giving out tickets to schools is a great idea  the schools can organize the trip and travel from the school budgets so what have the club to lose by offering? :ayatollah: :ayatollah:
