Eoin Doyle will lead the attack, playing just in front of Joe Mason, after going on for Conor McAleny at Leeds.

There aren’t too many selection decisions for Russell Slade. He has 19 players fit and available including Danny Gabbidon and Semi Ajayi, a young defender signed on loan from Arsenal. Both travelled to Leeds on Saturday, but weren’t involved. Now that Conor McAleny is injured, though, one of them will be among the substitutes.

Cardiff are expected to be forced into at least one change after Conor McAleny was forced off in the first half of the win over Leeds due to injury, and Eoin Doyle is likely to take his place in attack.

Joe Mason is likely to keep his place in the side, while Lee Peltier is expected to start at full-back once again.

Conor McAleny out with a hamstring injury.

Alex Revell is out injured with a back injury.

Kagisho Dikgacoi and Ben Turner will play in a development game on Monday and both are set to feature for Cardiff City before the end of the season.

Pilkington is now fit to play :thumbright:

Ipswich could be without Luke Varney, who lasted just 23 minutes against Blackpool at the weekend, and that may see Jonny Williams return to the starting lineup.

There is still no good news regarding the fitness of David McGoldrick, which means Daryl Murphy and Freddie Sears should continue their partnership up front.

Ipswich Town Football Club (also known as Ipswich, The Blues, Town, or The Tractor Boys) is an English professional association football team based in Ipswich, Suffolk. As of the 2014–15 season, they play in the Football League Championship, having last appeared in the Premier League in 2001–02.

The club was founded in 1878 but did not turn professional until 1936, and was subsequently elected to join the Football League in 1938. They play their home games at Portman Road in Ipswich. The only fully professional football club in Suffolk, they have a long-standing and fierce rivalry with Norwich City in Norfolk, with whom they have contested the East Anglian derby 139 times since 1902.

Ipswich won the English league title once, in their first season in the top flight in 1961–62, and have twice finished runners-up, in 1980–81 and 1981–82. They won the FA Cup in 1977–78, and the UEFA Cup in 1980–81. They have competed in the top two tiers of English football uninterrupted since 1957–58, currently the longest streak among Championship clubs after Coventry were relegated in the 2011–12 season. They have competed in all three European club competitions, and have never lost at home in European competition, defeating Real Madrid, AC Milan, Internazionale, Lazio and Barcelona, amongst others.

History and description

Ipswich Town played their first match at Portman Road in 1884, though at that time it was only a bare pitch with a pavilion of the cricket club they shared the ground with.

In the early 20th century a first small wooden stand got built, but it took until 1936 when Ipswich turned professional that proper terraces were built.

Portman Road got gradually improved and expanded from the 1950s, with a new West Stand opening in 1957 and the new Portman Stand in 1971.

The stadium set its record attendance in 1975 when a total of 38,010 spectators attended an FA Cup match between Ipswich and Leeds. The West Stand got further expanded in 1982, but capacity had already started to decline due to safety measures.

Portman Road got converted into an all-seater in 1992, resulting in a capacity of 22,500 seats.

Promotion to the Premier League in the late 1990s made funds available for further improvements, which led to the complete rebuilding of both stands behind the goals in 2000 and 2002.

Mick McCarthy: 'Playoff battle will go down to the end of the season'

By Simon Sinclair, Reporter
Last Updated: Sunday, April 12, 2015 at 04:43 UK
Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy has admitted that his side have a lot of work to do this season to earn a place in the playoffs.

The Tractor Boys moved back into the playoff places courtesy of a 3-2 victory over Blackpool thanks to Christophe Berra's late goal in a tight-contest at Portman Road.

McCarthy told Sky Sports News: "We deserved to win and at this moment in time it doesn't really matter how we get the three points. We had enough chances to win two matches. We would love to be sweeping everyone aside but we haven't done that all season.

"I knew Blackpool would be a tough nut to crack, they have some good players and they can take chances as they have nothing to lose. It took our centre-back [Berra] to be on the spot but it doesn't matter how we get it.

"We now have 71 points, my best total since I've been here, but we are still nowhere near clinching a top-six spot. It is nice being back in the top six but my mantra all season has been that it will go right to the end."

Ipswich play Cardiff City in their next Championship outing on Tuesday.

This should be a very tough game, Ipswich are playing very well at the moment and are fighting to keep their play-off place.
So for them this is a must win. Saying that I am feeling confident after beating Leeds on Saturday, and can see another City win, nothing to play for so just play without fear :bluescarf: :bluescarf:
Ipswich 1-2 City.

Shame McAleny is out, but I think if City can capitalise on chances (and keep creating them like against Leeds) then 3 points is really possible here.

Good away form and momentum on our side!

Preview: Ipswich Town vs. Cardiff City

By Callum Mulvihill, Reporter

Monday, April 13, 2015

A dramatic playoff race continues for Ipswich Town on Tuesday evening when they host Cardiff City at Portman Road.

As the eight-team battle to secure a spot in the Premier League goes on, the pressure to avoid disappointing results is higher than ever and a meeting with a side comfortable in mid-table is certain to bring its own challenges.

Ipswich Town

Mick McCarthy's side head into their latest test on the back of a victory which was far more difficult to secure than expected when Championship fans looked at the weekend's fixture list.

Despite being short of their best, Ipswich managed to battle to a 3-2 victory over relegated Blackpool on Saturday thanks to Christophe Berra, who scored a late winner to clinch three crucial points.

Although the performance may not have been ideal, McCarthy will be fully aware that results are all that matters at this stage of the season, and recovering from a winless Easter weekend was surely more important than the display in Suffolk.

Before the win over Blackpool, a draw with leaders Bournemouth and defeat to Huddersfield Town had put the pressure on, but Saturday's triumph helped the Tractor Boys regain sixth spot.

Ipswich prepare for the meeting with Cardiff just one point behind fifth-placed Derby County, but with Brentford and Wolverhampton Wanderers level on points with them, there is simply no room for slip-ups.

It could be Saturday's trip to Wolves which has the biggest say in whether Ipswich's promotion bid is successful, but taking a win into that fixture could prove to be vital.

Cardiff City :thumbright:

For Russell Slade, ensuring that his Cardiff players remain motivated in the closing stages of the season will surely be the biggest challenge as the Bluebirds look to clinch a top-half finish.

A season after losing their Premier League status, hopes of an immediate return to the top flight of English football were dashed in the first half of the campaign and supporters will already be looking to the summer in hope that new additions can boost a promotion bid.

The same supporters remained in the Welsh capital to protest a "derisory" 500-ticket allocation, and they missed an impressive win as Slade's men picked up a 2-1 win over Leeds United at Elland Road.

Cardiff's travelling fans will be back for another long trip on Tuesday, and recent form suggests that they will arrive full of confidence thanks to a seven-match unbeaten run away from home.

Slade will be keen to ensure that his side do not lose focus in their final four games, and they could move level on points with ninth-placed Nottingham Forest with another victory.

Home fixtures against Millwall and Blackpool follow Tuesday's test, and the Bluebirds will be quietly confident about finishing the season with an extended winning run after a campaign of frustration.

TEAM NEWS

Ipswich: Ipswich cannot afford to slip up. They are in the top six, but only above rivals Brentford and Wolves on goal difference. Manager Mick McCarthy takes his Tractor Boys to play his former club, Wolves, next Saturday.

McCarthy wanted to stick with an unchanged line-up from their 3-2 win against Blackpool by Luke Varney is injured and Jonny Williams may step in.

Cardiff: There aren’t too many selection decisions for Russell Slade. He has 19 players fit and available including Danny Gabbidon and Semi Ajayi, a young defender signed on loan from Arsenal. Both travelled to Leeds on Saturday, but weren’t involved. Now that Conor McAleny is injured, though, one of them will be among the substitutes.

My feeling is that Slade will make one change with Eoin Doyle in for McAleny.

Re: ' TEAM NEWS IPSWICH T v CARDIFF CITY ' Updated Daily

Mon Apr 13, 2015 9:19 pm

Ipswich will assess the fitness of Luke Varney ahead of the visit of Cardiff to Portman Road.

The on-loan Blackburn forward lasted just 23 minutes of the 3-2 home win over relegated Blackpool on Saturday when sent Town back into the top six. But boss Mick McCarthy will again be without David McGoldrick (thigh), Luke Hyam (knee), Darren Ambrose (hamstring), Kevin Bru (calf) and Noel Hunt (knee) remain sidelined. Jonny Williams, on loan from Crystal Palace, has made two substitute appearances since returning to the club for a third spell and may now be in contention for a start. Cardiff look set to be without Conor McAleny when they make the long trip. The Everton loanee was forced out of Saturday's 2-1 win at Leeds with a recurrence of a hamstring injury and so Eoin Doyle, who replaced him at Elland Road, looks set to partner Joe Mason on Tuesday night. Mason, arguably Cardiff's man of the match, will get another chance to impress with Alex Revell and Federico Macheda both expected to miss out once more with back injuries.
