Cardiff managed to keep their impressive run against Leeds going after a 2-1 win at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon.
It took 14 minutes for Cardiff to take the lead through Sean Morrison. A Peter Whittingham corner was flicked on by Lee Peltier, and Morrison was there at the back post to poke in past Silvestri.
However, 3 minutes later Leeds equalised, Marshall lost his footing at the crucial moment and Kalvin Phillips was there to tap into an empty net.
Cardiff’s second came 18 minutes into the second half, with almost a carbon copy of the first. Another Whittingham corner, another Peltier flick and a save from Morrison’s shot was turned in by Gunnarsson with Silvestri stranded.
Joe Mason’s first return to the starting XI proved a valuable decision from Russell Slade, even if he didn’t have many other options. The Irishman was very lively throughout the game before being replaced by Kadeem Harris on 70 minutes. One slight concern for Cardiff was that Conor McAleny pulled his hamstring on 32 minutes and was replaced by Eoin Doyle, which leaves Slade with only two fit, out and out strikers in Doyle and Mason.
Following the mid-week ticket saga between the two clubs, Cardiff fans will be jubilant after not being able to travel up north, and retaining the record of not losing to Leeds in 36 years. They will be extremely happy that their team has managed to grind out the win today.
The Bluebirds will travel to Portman Road to play Ipswich on Tuesday night, hoping that their much improved away record can continue.
