Getting rid of the high earners

Wed Apr 08, 2015 6:08 pm

Much has been written and said over the past few months about getting rid of the "high earners" in the club, mostly those who were bought during the Premiership season or by Ole on ridiculous wages.

I'm just wondering why Peter Whittingham has not been mentioned and pimped around like so many others have?

Maybe he has?

Whitts has been here for years now, has been given contract after contract over that time (often to help keep him out of the clutches of other clubs) and must surely be one of the highest earners in the club.

But there has been no suggestion that the club will be looking to move him on in the summer.

I have a lot of respect for Whitts - he has been loyal and on his day was a magnificent player for us. Now however his performances do not really justify being selected for every single game. I was amazed to hear someone say the other day that it's been over TWO YEARS since he last scored from a free kick.

I don't want this to be seen as another "let's make Whitts the scapegoat" post but I am genuinely intrigued as to whether the club will be looking to offload someone who must be one of the big earners at the club this summer.

Tan would probably order his sale to save having to grant him a testimonial!

Do they have testimonials any more ? He is a millionaire !!!

With the exception of Kenwyne I bet all those on loan, wanted to go out...

Its must be shit playing for Cardiff City nowadays, I bet loads want out. Its just a job to them.....

Whitts would not go any where
Does not need the money
Loves where he lives on Penarth sea front
His girl friend is from Penarth
Has new business in Penarth and she won't move
Loyal my arse
Comfort zone and no ambition yes :bluescarf:

The point is that players like Le Fondre and Kenwyne were sent out on loan regardless of their wishes just to help cut costs.

Surely Whitts must be at risk of the same thing happening to him whether he likes it or not in order to get his wages off the books.

Or is it one rule for some high earners and a different rule for others?

Get someone decent in midfield with Whitts and then see what will happen

Sad for me to agree but whits has been a massive let down this season . He has no strength can't tackle and let's Gunnerson down and makes him look poor . Look at the Bolton second goal by Bolton starts with whits losing the ball . This started at the first game of the season against Blackburn whits loses the ball he doesn't try and get it back and bang goal against City . Whits not got it any more

Sense at last - Maybe one of the signings will be a replacement for whitts and Noone, who has gone backwards.

Or:
Integrated in to the City and the area
Passionate, loyal and cares about the club
Only player in our team who can pick out a pass but has no movement or options in front of him.
Out of form, possibly, but one of our more talented and capable players, without doubt.
Does what he wants...........Hell Yeah :ayatollah:

Do you honestly think players go out against their wishes

They have to sign.............

Alf wants to go back up north.....Kenwynne knows he is not wanted. Connolly wants to go back to London. The others are for development or surplus to requirements.

There is so much negativity on here, but few ever really think about it and take all the gossip and conjecture as fact.

14 league goals is as good as Kenwynne is nowadays....His salary will pay for 3 gambles on youngsters.

Back to Whitts....He won't go. Probably on a million a year, 2 years left, need to give him a million sweetner to leave.......

I didn't say that they were sent out against their wishes, i said they were sent out regardless of their wishes. They may have been happy enough to go but they don't seem to have been given much say in the matter.

ALF himself said that he was told at the airport before flying to a game that he would be going out on loan and Kennwyne stated that his loan deal was completed less than 30 minutes after he first heard about it!

The point of my original post was that the club cannot wait to pimp out SOME of the highest earners but it doesn't seem as if this applies to all of them which is why I used Whitts as an example.

This is how i see it.... The Manager/Club talk to the agent regularly,

how is "x" settling
Not enjoying being out of team/goals
If we can get him a move closer to home, you up for it ?
Yeah, see what you can do

A couple of days later the club phone agent

Watford/Bolton are willing to take you for the rest of the season
Great, I'll phone "x"
"x" you got your move, but don't piss off the Cardiff fans in case it doesn't work out say "it came out the blue".

Now with Whitts and Gunnar

How is "y"
Great loving the area, wife had a baby/opened a business , we need to think about extension soon
Would "y" fancy a loan move
No.....
Would "y" fancy a transfer
Not really, but for 10% of the transfer fee, a signing on fee from both clubs and of course at least the same salary from the next club, we would consider it.........

I never believe any of the spin rubbish players, agent or the clubs put out.......

You have to ask the question - " Why were some of these players put on high wages in the Championship "...

An Owner who allowed it to happen ??? A Manager who was allowed to get and offer the wage ( then leave )

Under DJ - The players were on an avg £10-£15k a week ( apart from Chops and Hudson )

What a mess we find ourselves 4 years on - In the same division :(

he is a big earner, but i think he'll stay because he will not be offered the same £30k+ a week salary at a rival championship team. only premier league teams will pay that sort of money and he isn't good enough for that level.

everyone is for sale this summer, and whitts is no different. i think he'll be the one we keep whereas all other players of significant value will go.

Can't see why anyone would want him on the wages he is on
People big him up to be something he's not
Getting on abit now
Yeah great passer of a ball used to nail free kicks can take corners
That's all I find useful from him
They all say he's playing in the wrong position
So if he don't fit why play him
He's not that good we should change because of him
Question yourself why Aston villa got rid of him and no else has come in for him through out his playing career
Good championship player at most in his prime about time him and others left the club
Too many players just turning up and going home now
No passion
No fight
You could say dire and no passion rather than fire and passion
Here's hoping next season is a good year !
