My thoughts on today

We were the better team for the first 55 minutes, then Bolton scored and we had no idea how to get ourselves back into the game. As soon as Bolton scored, things went bad, very bad!

Eoin Doyle confirmed today he is a lower league striker not up to this level. The number of occasions he just needed a good first touch for a certain goal, but his touch was too heavy and the chances went.

Alex Revell going off was a massive blow. We had no platform to build our attacks after Revell went off. Doyle struggled and Mason looked a long way off fitness needing the run out, but neither of them can hold the ball up and we lacked attacking ideas without Revell on the pitch.

Craig Noone was his usual, frustrating self, running down blind tunnels, overdoing it, predictably cutting in onto his left foot and constantly giving possession away. How he remained on the pitch for the whole game was a mystery.

Whittingham had a woeful game, usually Whittingham's ability on the ball makes up for his poor contribution off the ball, but today Whittingham was poor both in and out of possession. The second goal came from Whittingham giving possession away with a poor first touch, then failing to put his foot in to win the ball back. We all know as soon as the opposing midfielder breaks away from Whittingham, there's no chance of Whittingham chasing back to catch him.

Gudjohnsen walked through the middle in the first half and slid a pass through for a one on one and I'm still wondering how Gudjohnsen was allowed to pick up the ball unchallenged in the middle to score. It was a great strike, but you can't give a player like Gudjohnsen that amount of time and space. Bolton played with Davis and Heskey up front with Gudjohnsen in the hole just behind which caused us problems, so perhaps an extra body in midfield to counter the threat to help Gunnarsson out would have worked, as our strikers weren't really doing anything anyway.

Manga aside, our spine was non existent today. Morrison continues to be a liability, they nearly scored a fourth with a basic through ball down the middle and Heskey was on his own with Morrison out of position. Gunnarsson is a different player with Whittingham alongside him than he is for Iceland, but that's hardly surprising, and our strikers didn't threaten.

We wouldn't have conceded 3 goals if Connolly was playing. Slade was turning it around but now Connolly and Jones have been shipped out, I fear we will finish the season with more performances like today and the fans, who are waiting for Slade to fail, can't wait to jump on his back. I knock Jones because he has all the attributes to tear this division apart but he only bothers when he wants to. But Jones would have at least given us the threat that Doyle and Mason failed to today. With Revell going off, we had nobody up top to hold the ball up and be a physical nuisance to enable us to get men forward.

A lot of strange decisions by Slade today. Peltier surely needs to be recalled for Leeds, he's a leader who organises and we could have done with him on the pitch today. I don't think we would have conceded 3 goals if Peltier played. Kennedy must come in for Noone this Saturday, as we need players to keep possession and make correct decisions. The turnover of possession will always be a lot greater with Noone on the pitch and we can't get away with this away from home. McAleny wasn't even on the bench so he must have been carrying a knock, which was a shame as he would have been raring to go after his goal.

One of my concerns is how poor must Adeyemi be in training for him not to be included? Our midfield needs Adeyemi, a powerful midfielder full of energy who can break forwards. With us now struggling for options up front, why not put Adeyemi in midfield this Saturday and go 4-5-1?

I think a lot of players were off colour today, perhaps they were tired and jaded after playing Saturday, but they're still professional footballers and the centre midfield needs to be shored up after todays display, where Gudjohnsen seemed to be walking through the middle of us at will.

My man of the match today was Fabio, by a mile. He looked the only player with energy and commitment on the pitch really. Today was a bad day at the office, we were the better team for the first 55 minutes but as soon as Bolton scored, we didn't have any idea how to get back into the game. We couldn't string any passing moves together to penetrate with Noone continuously giving it away. Things need to be freshened up this Saturday, with both personnel and tactics in my opinion.

We were the better team first half against a poor Bolton team.

However as the game went on we were clueless and did not look like scoring. No creativity, no service to the front line, everyone except Whitts frightened to shoot, no goals. Same every game.

Fabio was at fault for 2 of their goals !!!!!

Noone has been shit all season, but gets such an easy ride. Without 2 wingers on top of their game 442 is such a static system. Joe Rall on the left helped Whitts out with controlling the game, but offers little attacking option. This is why MAlky never played with with out and out wingers they are a luxury. Ole wanted the width through the use of a modern wing back, with a sitting midfielder almost giving you 3 at the back.

Adeyemi is a destructive player, I doubt he could open up a bag of crisps ,but if we had real talent out wide or up front he would be perfect. Sadly he can't trap a bag of cement, so would be more of a liability retaining possession than Gunnar.

Doyle is finding the step up a problem, the defenders make less mistake the higher you go and you need to be more clinical as you wont get as many chances.

No more business decisions to make, 5 games left, remove Slade now. If we are keeping him we need to sell Whitts, Gunnar, Noone, Fabio, Mason as well as all the others who are out.
