I can't stand the woman personally but I think she did reasonably well tonight. I can't see the rest of the UK giving a shite about us Welsh though...

Re: Leanne Wood

Thu Apr 02, 2015 8:35 pm

She's not as bad as the Jimmy Cranky lookalike who's stood next to her.

Or for that matter Skippy's mum on the other end of the lineup.

Re: Leanne Wood

The greens, snp and plaid are just a waste of air time. Why not have more local debates for the scots and Welsh?

The girl did quite well. She got the first applause of the evening and tried to stand up for our country. It was Cameron and Farage that looked poor. At least Leanne Wood spoke up for OUR country.why do you think Scotland gets a better deal. Because they stood upfor their country we need to stand up and be counted. I am proud to be a Welshman from Llanrumney and we need to make sure thatWALES has a voice. Is driving Blue even Welsh?

Re: Leanne Wood

Farage, Wood and the poor lady from Greens were out of their depth.

Cameron was like a scared rabbit in the headlights

Surprisingly I thought Miliband was the most confident and the only one who was willing to say the unpopular things as well as making the usual party political points.

Sturgeon was the most impressive but not an option for us so Miliband for me on that performance and policies in general.

Is she even standing for parliament ?

Re: Leanne Wood

Thu Apr 02, 2015 9:55 pm

The SNP leader went in there to attract friends from outside of Scotland and it worked whereas Wood was valleys, valleys, valleys and even as someone who grew up in the valleys it would never attract someone living elsewhere!!!

. .you should be East of Risca. Use your head the polls are based on the uk. Wales is the smallest country. With too many people who are not Welsh or who have lost their identity and their b#lls. Hence the reason the Scots who stand up for their rights do better.

I have finished what I want to say. I am not a Welsh nationalist but some of you sadden me. I think of myself as Welsh. You clearly think of yourself as someone who happens to live in North Risca. :sleepy2:

What are you rambling mate . I have voted plaid in the past , that was an awful display targeted at the wrong audience . The SNP lady stood up for her country but in the right manner . The polls are uk based as it was a uk wide debate .

Re: Leanne Wood

Wales is the smallest countryin the UK. If you ask people largely based in England for their opinions tonight they will probably never have heard of Leanne Wood. She did quite well but was starting from a low base. Isnt that common sense. I cant explain it more simply!, i did not expect her to be brilliant, but she did better than I had expected and stood up for our country.
Plaid and Wales have had a low profile. Alex Salmond/Nicola Sturgeon have managed to get support and worry the Westminster powers that be. Hence they get far more powers than Wales. And if you look at the amount per head spend on people in Wales compared to our Scottish cousins they do far far better. (The Barnett formula). Etc etc Also they will get amuch more attention in the post debate analsis. Because they have shown some muscle.
Time to stand up for your country whatever your politics. For Gods sake. Otherwise we may as well be part of England.
That really is the end of my comments Goodnight to you / nos da i chi

she wasn't there to represent Wales, she was there as a minor party leader. Any one of the other three WAG leaders would have done a far superior job representing their party and Wales.

She had one objective and that was to convert labour voters in the valleys to drop their life long support, she was one step from donning a daffodil hat and screaming "go on Shane".

Sturgeon was showing she and by default her party are an alternative to the Westminster lot and there is nothing to fear from the SNP. I predict died in the wool unionist labour voters may switch to the SNP in droves. The same won't happen here.

Woods just showed we are a small inwardly looking whining country that is just not ready to take part on the world stage.

But the rest of the UK warmed to the SNP leader through and that's because she spoke to the UK not just to Scotland

The problem is that people put too much emphasis upon these debates because image is regarded more highly than substance, yet it's the policies that they wish to implement which are more important. Think back to the debates prior to the last election and how well Clegg did and how loathed he became shortly after joining the coalition.

That could well be the case but a lot of the job of being good at debates surely

I would! ;)

Re: Leanne Wood

Plaid Cymru- Welsh nationalists
SNP- Scottish nationalists

UKIP- English/ British nationalists (I say English nationalists as Wales and Scotland are an after thought for them. For example, they would make St. George's day a national holiday)

Anyone smart enough can discern that the core message of these three parties are almost identical (regarding sovereignty) . So the UKIP fans calling the SNP/Plaid on their policies really are twp.

The main difference is that Farage plays the 'I don't like immigrants card' (even though his wife is one).

Some people need to have the confidence to think for themselves and not garner their views from the box in the corner of their rooms.

Seems that lots of you watched a different debate to the rest of the country.
The Western Mail and Wales on Line have Leanne Wood as a winner. The Mirror, The Idependent, Sky News and the rest of the media are also praising her performance. She stood up to and put down both Farage and Miliband!
Sky News "Plaid are the big winners from last night's debate"
I think if we had a Wales Only poll you would have Leanne as a very clear winner.

What the debate did show is that the other parties don't have an idea about the neeeds of Wales.

Re: Leanne Wood

Fri Apr 03, 2015 9:26 am

These television debates are a welcome addition. The only trouble is that it perhaps takes the attention away from a party's policies and focuses the attention on the leaders. I think Miliband has come out of these quite well on a personal level but he's not really done any good for his party. David Cameron has done slightly better for his party but not had any real benefit from them.

The great thing is that it is giving the other parties more of a voice and that's a good thing in my opinion. Even if you don't agree with them, isn't that what freedom of speech is all about. I was tired listening to the whole Tory vs Labour debate and being made to think you only had one of two choices. That's not democracy.

On a personal level, I think Sturgeon did best for her and her party. After that, Miliband came out best as a personality but didn't really do any benefit for his party where as the others didn't help themselves or their parties very much at all.

Farage just looked like a creepy sweating political parody of Mr Bean.
