England fans sang anti-IRA songs during Tuesday’s friendly in Italy despite efforts from the Football Association to stamp the chants out following last year’s match in Scotland.
Wednesday 1st April 2015
The Guardian
England fans caused controversy last November with the chants during the 3-1 victory at Celtic Park. And, though the FA liaised with fan groups after the Scotland game to try to prevent such chants happening again, they were heard during England’s 1-1 draw at the Juventus Stadium in Turin. During the first half they could also be heard singing derogatory songs about Italy and Italians.
Any repeat during England’s next match, against the Republic of Ireland in Dublin on 7 June, would bring yet more criticism.
After the win in Scotland, the FA made it clear it was unhappy, saying in a statement: “We apologise for any offence caused by a section of the England support at the match with Scotland. The FA does not condone inappropriate and offensive chanting and intends to meet with supporters’ groups to discuss the wider issues. We have consistently urged supporters to show respect and not to chant songs that could be regarded as insulting to others – particularly from a religious or political perspective.”

Annis,
At the Scotland game the 'follow England away' song turned into "'f**k The IRA'. The stop playing the follow 'England away' song but many people continued the chant.
Could not go yesterday but will find out more later today but would assume it was something similar
The FA are concerned about the ROI fixture in June because of what happened last time. They have limited tickets to just under 3K and moved the game to 1.00pm kick off.
Got my tickets for that and Slovenia away - looking forward to both trips !!

Disgusting that the English fans sign "nasty songs" about a Terrorist Organisation reponsible for killing hundreds of people.
Must really upset the IRA etc - love them
Not as if the celtic fans etc show any dislike of the British Army/Govt is it

Oh dear. Well if the IRA find the chanting offensive then perhaps Martin Mcgiuness and Gerry Admas (IRA Army Council) could make an apperance at Westminster to complain if they feel victimised but wait, they refuse to attend in person as its the British goverrment and against the IRA values but love the money they receive from the British taxpayer. Hypocrisy at its finest.
f**k the IRA!

I can't see there being any trouble inside the ground next time they play in June. A major factor on why there was trouble last time they played, was the old landsdown road stadium....England fans right on top of irish fans, great old ground, but not so great at keeping rival fans separated. The new aviva is a different story all together

They have not been active since the late 90s but I suppose Anti Taliban, IS, AQ, RIRA, Choudarary songs have not really proved popular yet.....

When have they carried out an act since the late 90's?, please do provide some evidence of this without citing any RIRA incidents who are a separate organization to the IRA.

Just as we worked with the Mujahadeen against the Russians, Just as we train Palestinian Authority Police and Troops, just as the yanks allowed funding for the IRA in the US, just as we fund Hamas etc, etc.
Its a world that goes around and around and there will always be backdoor deals....ffs!
Britains biggest spy in WW2 was a Jack aswell.

The Irish sing songs like 'The Fields of Athenry', but that's allowed. England fans aren't allowed to say 'boo' to a goose. Total hypocracy!

They kept the lights on, to help the Luftwaffe and the U-boats.

Pathetic all of it.
Anyone who brings politics to football is a tosser.

f**k THE IRA - Murdering baby killers
Fri Apr 03, 2015 8:43 am
Fans that sing political songs at football matches can do one in my opinion. I'm not even a fan of songs that are anti-club rivals. Much more for the pro-club songs. No time for politics in football.
Fri Apr 03, 2015 12:12 pm
Just more ignorant and boorish behaviour from football fans, and so stuck in the past. It will be "Who won the war" and songs about 1966 next.

I doubt that McGuiness, Adams and the IRA or any splinter groups would be offended by a group of silly drunken, ignorant English football fans , singing in unison like a load of sheep about something they have no interest or knowledge about.

Just look at the average England fan that chants this crap....? They are not going to trouble Mensa are they ? These lobotomised
trolls are out of the dark ages.I doubt if many of them felt strongly enough to sign up in the 1970/80/90's to go on patrol in Belfast or Armagh because they would shit themselves at the thought. If they kick off in Ireland I hope the Garda beat them to a pulp.

Why Would a song eulogising about hundreds of thousands of irish dying of starvation be considered offensive by a few hundred meatheads from lewisham??
Where exactly is the hypocracy here?
