Jones, who scored 13 goals for the Bluebirds this season, has spoken for the first time about his shock loan departure to Bournemouth
We'd 1st April 2015
Cardiff City top scorer Kenwyne Jones says he is still trying to understand his move to Bournemouth, describing the circumstances behind the loan as ‘bizarre’.
The 13-goal striker, 30, joined the Championship table-topping Cherries in a shock move before the deadline for emergency loans last Thursday.
Now he has revealed that the deal was finalised within half an hour of him first being informed of Bournemouth’s interest at 8.15am last Thursday.
Jones, speaking at a press conference held for his unveiling at Dean Court, gave a candid insight into his move.
Asked whether he had been expecting to join Cherries on loan, Jones replied: “No. It caught me by surprise. I didn’t think there were many things in football that would have surprised me any more and this actually did. I am still trying to understand how it came about.
“It was bizarre. I have seen and been through quite a lot in football and this one was a bit surprising. I got a call on Thursday at a quarter-past-eight talking about interest. I was like, with seven games to go, I don’t really see the sense in it. By a quarter-to-nine, it was finished. Whatever transpired between whoever in that 30 minutes, I don’t know.”
Although there is no provision in the deal for the move to be made permanent, Jones says he will be looking to impress.
He said: “I will be playing to do well and playing to try to help them over the line.
“Whatever takes place after that, I won’t be able to say until the conversation is had.
“For now, it is just about training well, trying to play well and getting Bournemouth promoted.”
Jones has trained with Cherries for the past two days and also spoke about Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe, adding: “It has been a short time and I have been very impressed with his work-rate, attention to detail and philosophy.
“For me, he is probably the best manager I have worked with on the club front.
Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe
“That is the type of impression he has made on me.”
Speaking following Jones’ move to the South Coast last week, Bluebirds manager Russell Slade said the decision to let him go was a financial rather than footballing one.
He had said: “We are not going up or down at this stage so in financial terms, it made sense for us.
“It is not a footballing decision but I would like to wish Kenwyne all the very best until the end of the season at Bournemouth.”
The Echo understands Bournemouth have agreed to pay Jones’ salary and bonuses for the rest of the season.
The Bluebirds have received a sizeable six-figure loan fee from Bournemouth. They will also receive another six-figure fee should Howe’s men be promoted to the Premier League with Jones on board.
We also understand no firm decision has been made on Jones’ future in the Welsh capital

It's not rocket science we are getting potentially two large fees and all his wages and bonuses paid for

Considering it happened to other players before him and Slade publicly stated why players were going! So how can he be shocked? Unless he thought he was above such a move!

You can't argue it's not good business by the club
How damaging cost-cutting is to ST sales by doing it mid-season and not post-season is a lingering question though

Great move for the lad, off to a better more successful club, he must be well chuffed, back in the PL next season for KJ

Seems a bit of a negative attitude (he'd do well on this board). If I were a Bournemouth fan I'd rather he was saying "I'm pleased to be coming to play for Bournemouth" rather than "I'm shocked that Cardiff wanted to loan me out"

you find out a club's level of ambition through actions, not empty words. the act of loaning out two first teamers as you think your season is over are acts of a low ambition club.
closing the vincent tan stand. selling our best players in the summer. it all points to a bleak short to medium term future here.
how are you supposed to attract pay on the day fans when you have as good as admitted the season is over and you are planning for next year already?

Typical footballer of today. Totally blinkered to anything but his own life and wages.
With nothing to play for it was a smart move. We get rid of the wages for a bit and should Bournemouth go up we have already stuck him in the shop window for them to buy.
But hey Kenwynne you continue to only see things in ya typical spilt footballer ways.
And that goes for Rahim Sterling while I'm here.

It's quite easy - win regularly. When it comes down to it, success is what brings the punters in. Malky's brand of football was ruthless but hardly spectacular, but a winning team puts bums on seats.

It's cost cutting for the benefit of the club. We are still buying players Doyle, O'Keefe, Malone, Revell, peltier but getting rid of high waged players.

the point is that you don't tend to win regularly if you take cost cutting to this sort of level. deprive the team of players like jones and its less likely we will win.

So he's shocked at being loaned out but was told after the Birmingham game he won't play for us again.
Good business by the club. I liked Kenwynne but never worth 35k a week. Revell and Doyle upfront next season will do me. Bring the debt down ready for Tan to sell

And only desperate newly promoted clubs like Bournemouth are stupid enough to pay £35k a week to PL benchwarmers like Kenwynne

Mind you, it could have been worse. We got rid of Odemwinge in the Kenwynne deal, and he disappeared soon after a few appearances at the World cup for Nigeria.
