' Cardiff City striker Javi Guerra admits he wants to stay with Malaga after loan deal finishes '

Tuesday 31st March 2015

Following limited opportunities with the Bluebirds, Guerra headed back to his native Spain in the January transfer window and has since made five La Liga appearances, scoring once

Striker Javi Guerra has admitted that he wants his loan deal from Cardiff City to Malaga made into a permanent arrangement.

The Malaga-born striker headed back to his native Spain in the January transfer window and has since made five La Liga appearances, scoring once, and believes he can do enough between now and the end of the season to secure a deal.

The 33-year-old was signed from Spanish outfit Valladolid by former Bluebirds boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last summer on a free transfer, but failed to make the breakthrough in the Welsh capital making just three appearances off the bench in the Championship and getting two run-outs in the Capital One Cup.

He was sent out on loan to Malaga until the end of the season by current Cardiff manager Russell Slade in the new year and now looks to have no future with the Bluebirds.

Having overcome injury, Guerra said he is fully focused on the end of the Spanish season with Malaga, who currently lie seventh in the table, and he admitted to putting his Bluebirds experience fully behind him as he bids to secure a permanent deal in his homeland.

“The best and most important part of the season is yet to come and there is a tough challenge ahead of us,” said Guerra.

“The recent injury I suffered has been a setback as it was worse than I thought, but I’m now fully recovered and without pain so I’m available to the coach. I’ve already said I’d like to stay here and my aim is to bring more to the team and demand more from myself as I’ve not been happy with my performances so far.

“I’m hoping I can open my account at La Rosaleda against Real Sociedad this weekend. There’s no pressure on us and we are hoping to regain our enthusiasm.”

I am sure we'll let him go if he agrees to tear up his contract and no compo

He was never going to return - he wants to play and never got the chance with us. :?

It's a damn shame as I think he would have been our best striker by far, such a shame :(

I'm shocked by that statement; particularly after the exemplary way he's been treated by Cardiff City FC! :?

I jest, of course! Grossly mis-treated and I wish Guerra all the luck (and goals) in the world! ;) :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

No surprise there.
Hope a deal gets done so all parties can move on

He was given a chance to prove himself in the League Cup match against Bournemouth and looked totally disinterested. Once we were relegated I bet he was already plotting a return to La Liga. What you've never had you don't miss. Adios and good luck to him. :ayatollah:

Experienced 33-year-old Spaniard, Javi Guerra, is clearly content with being back on home soil, particularly as it's with a club in his native region, given he hails originally from the Costa del Sol town of Vélez-Málaga, just a short drive along the coast from the port city of Málaga.

Following the relegation of Real Valladolid from La Liga at the end of the 2013-14 campaign and out of contract, Guerra agreed a switch to Welsh side Cardiff City, despite their relegation from the Premier League last season.

Obvious that things weren't quite going to plan for him in the Championship, with just three appearances from the bench for Cardiff City, in the January transfer window he was delighted to accept a loan move to Malaga CF.

Whilst pushing for regular games with Los Boquerones hasn't been easy, given the wealth of talented youngsters in the Malaga attack, Guerra is content with his role and his opportunities, having scored once in five outings so far in La Liga.
Slight injuries and knocks have hindered his progress but at a press call this week, Guerra informed local newspaper SUR: "I'm ready, available to play and keen to do so, when the manager needs me. I've had some stops and starts, but now I feel fine. I'm in perfect shape now and have no problems."

Although his loan contract from Cardiff City didn't include an option for Malaga to make the deal permanent, Guerra also expressed a desire to stay with the Costa del Sol club, hinting that talks are already in motion and explaining: "As far as I'm concerned, I'd be delighted to stay with Malaga. They've asked me if that's what I want and I've said 'yes', it is."
Guerra does acknowledge that he must keep working hard for games in order to earn himself a permanent contract with Malaga, accepting: "We'll evaluate things at the end of the season. I want to demand more from myself between now and then, and we'll see what happens in the summer."

Speculation among the local media around Malaga believes that if the club can talk Cardiff City into releasing Guerra on a free transfer, he would likely be offered a one-year deal at La Rosaleda with the option of a second based on performance and reaching a target number of appearances.

Probably missed out on one of the best forwards we've ever had. In all my years of supporting
the City I've never seen such inept management, not just Guerra but in general.
I will still support the boys no matter what but sometimes I am gobsmacked by the decisions
made at the higher levels.
If Tan wants promotion how the hell does he think Slade can achieve it with no money. 2nd. rate players and
a support that is screaming out for unity ?
Best of luck to Javi, sorry for the shabby way you were treated.

I am really surprised he is not in the club's plans.

They say they haven't given up on a promotion but the same token, expect the goals to come from a Championship grafter and a 26 year old league 1 player :?

Don't get me wrong, I like our strikeforce's commitment and effort, but to expect that partnership to fire the team to a promotion season is ludicrous :thumbright:

Thomas, Guerra knocked on SLADES door on 2 occasions and asked for a chance, only been virtually ignored.
I don't care what anyone says Guerra like many other players in the last 2 years was not given a fair chance ,which has cost the club £millions in wasted transfers etc.

Fans have grown up with new signings getting a chance to prove themselves, the influx of players signed just for the sake of it should be remembered, as it tells the story of what this regime is. Incompetent :thumbright: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Was this based upon the 10 mins as a sub or the one half in the league cup. I was looking forward to seeing him, but based upon what i saw, I could hardly make any judement, let alone one of the best forward we have had.

O.K., O.K., I was pissed. Still think based on his record in Spain, we missed out.
He was never given a chance to prove himself but even in the few minutes he
actually played he was class, Is that better ?

Guess you didn't watch La Liga last year. Or is the smilie the usall I don't know what the he'll im talking about smilie, trying to look smart? Witch is probably your only contribution on this forum. The irony is he went straight into a top la liga team from Cardiff before his injury. We replaced him with Revelll. Nice perspective of your smug smilie.
