The Bluebirds shocked their fans by agreeing to a deal with Cherries boss Eddie Howe which sees Jones wearing Bournemouth colours for the rest of the season
Cardiff City manager Russell Slade says the decision to let top scorer Kenwyne Jones join Bournemouth on loan until the end of the season was “a business one.”
The Bluebirds shocked their fans by agreeing to a deal with Cherries boss Eddie Howe which sees Jones wearing Bournemouth colours for the rest of the season.
It comes hot on the heels of Cardiff also having let defender Matt Connolly sign for Watford on loan.
Slade said of the Jones move: "Similar to the Connolly deal. It's a financial decision really.
"We are not going up or down at this stage so in financial terms, it made sense for us. It is not a footballing decision but I would like to wish Kenwyne all the very best until the end of the season at Bournemouth."
WalesOnline understands Bournemouth have agreed to pay Jones' considerable salary and bonuses for the rest of the season.
The Bluebirds have received a sizeable six-figure loan fee from Bournemouth. They will also receive another six-figure fee should Howe's men be promoted to the Premier League with Jones on board.
We also understand no firm decision has been made on Jones' future in the Welsh capital.
Jones joins Connolly and Adam Le Fondre as key Bluebirds personnel under Slade who have surprisingly been permitted to go out on loan.
Trinidad & Tobago international Jones joined the Bluebirds from Stoke in January 2014 in a deal which saw Peter Odemwingie move in the opposite direction. In total he has made 47 appearances for the Bluebirds and scored 14 goals in the process.
The 30-year-old has hit 13 goals so far this campaign for Slade’s side and played the full 90 minutes in the Bluebirds last outing, a 2-0 home win over Birmingham last weekend.
Meanwhile Slade has welcomed promising Arsenal youngster Semi Ajayi, who signs on loan for the rest of the season.
He said of the defender: “He's only 20 and very much a work in progress for us.
"He won't be near the first team this season. He will train with the senior squad and under-21s.
"He's an interesting player and exciting for his age. It's definitely something we will look at in summer. But let's see how things go."

Very good business

It's a no brainer especially with the loan fee.

Absolutely agree with this deal. Especially if we're getting a sizeable fee for the loan and extras upon promotion.

Tan/Slade Keep saying its business decision, after business decision, but dont expect fans to buy season tickets or play £32 plus admission.
You cant have it both ways?

If we sell Marshall and Manga over the summer then we'll know for sure who is making all the decisions and that building a promotion winning team isn't part of the plan.

Good business by City for change.
I dont see Jones being part of next seasons plans therefore why not offload his high wages?

Annis you keep saying the same thing over and over again, can't you see that this is an excellent deal for the club? Pretty much every fan has berated the fact that we pay Jones so much and how lazy he is, now we've got rid of him it's bad of the club to do so? CCFC can do no right for some people, we have our blue back, we have a decent badge now and the club is finally getting rid of the over paid last primadonnas who have plagued the club almost as badly as the rebrand

I think Jones was well over paid.
But lets now see the crowds increase, see what the other fans think about how our club is run?

Wasn't Tan pumping in £2m a month at one point? So just because we've loaned out a few players we should reduce our ticket prices? Seriously?

I think the club will get rid of more than just over paid prima donnas. Anyone worth a bit of money will be gone. The club has barely scratched the surface as far as it's debts are concerned. Plenty more players will be following Jones out of the door.

Let's be honest, fans wouldn't be buying season tickets if we'd kept Connolly, Le Fondre and Jones. People have been looking for half an excuse to jump ship since last October. Personally I think the Club has a better long term future if we get rid of the high earners and restructure according to our means.

Put it this way...
I would much rather buy a season ticket now kenwynne jones has gone..
If he was here next season it would be a massive put off buying a season ticket for me and i wonder how many other fans feel like that..
So a good move by the club if you look at it from a different point of view.
