Tan cutting costs

Mon Mar 23, 2015 8:45 am

I remember I think it was on here someone put a picture on showing the FFP rules. Maybe Tan is cutting back because we could be in big trouble due to these. This could be the case as we were losing a lot of money from wages every week. Also we couldn't have any fines etc. this season as we have only just come down.
I'm not saying Tan is completely right to do it but I just think some people look down upon everything Tan does. I'm not saying he's right or I support most of his decisions (especially the rebrand) but I think Tan pretty much had to cut costs.

Of course it's down to FFP, but it's also because he knows he needs to cut back! I agree with it, we need to stop spending 30k on wages on average players, but it should have happened in the summer, not mid season.

agree with you by there, but if they had left it until the end of the season they may be already breaking the FFP rules as too much has been spent over the season (on wages).

I see what your saying mate. What I don't understand is how they woke up out of bed half way through the season and just realised this After spending a fortune on player contracts at the start of the Season. Just goes to show how our club is being run

Doesnt the fair play rules not come in till two seasons after relegation ?

Maybe mate I'm not really sure.
If that's the case then they probably should have waited until the summer for a clear out.

Because he was convinced that the united legend ole knew what he was doing...... :sad7:

I think this summer will be brutal and we'll have 18 good players and 6 U21 who could make the break through. Malky knew one or two class players with good solid pro's may be enough with organisation, hard work and the "right sorts" to do the business.

I don't think FFP is a massive driver long term, Tan wants to sell the club as a model club, i.e making more money than it spends. I think leaving us in good hands will justify him losing £30/40 million.

We got 41 players in our first team squad this is ridiculous ,needs to be cut in half

Is it really that much?
That is ridiculous. We should ship out the big earners and start giving the youngsters a chance.
Such as sell Jones and give Healey a chance.

I belive your right Wez,Clubs are given 2 years that FFP does not apply and obviously parachute payments to try to avoid the boom and bust scenario

You've listed a fair few players whose contracts expire in the Summer there Wez and I can't see any of those being offered new ones, as if the club had that in mind, surely they'd have been tied down before?

There are also several players who are effectively DVP Squad players, who may or may not break into the first team on a consistent type basis and I'd imagine Everton will want McAleny back in the Summer, although I'd be delighted if we could convince them to let him stay with us!

I do agree that the squad is way too big though and it's impossible to keep so many players happy when they're not even making the bench, let alone the first eleven!

Imagine what it would have been like, had we not had the cull in January!

I beliebe we should only have a first team squad of 25 max ,dvp players are still on big wages need to get rid of these and bring the youngsters through from the academy

It's a big step up from the Academy though Wez and I was under the impression, that we had to have a DVP team in the league?

Whether we have to have a DVP team or not though, it's decent level of football and an ideal place to give players returning from injury a run out!

I agree about the 25 man first team squad though!

Not true - there is no 2 year period of grace.

There was a 2 year period when FFP was first introduced where breaches were not penalised to allow clubs to get their houses in order , but that period has now elapsed. So penalties now exist each and every season.

We gave it a go to get back up and it failed terribly so the only option was to cut back, the amount of players and wages we were paying was crazy.
If we are going to make the cut backs now is the time in my opinion, the parachute payments will hopefully cover the extra money we had to spend paying up contracts.

Hopefully as of next season we will be at least breaking even

Re: Tan cutting costs

Had to happen all this
The amount of player Malky and ole got and didn't sell was ridiculous !
I expect aload of them to go in the summer
Some Cardiff fans are living in dreamland
Can't afford to keep all these players
Hopefully a few youth will be giving the chance if not what's the point of having a youth system makes no sense
With a few youth mixed with experience I'm sure between them all they'd give it ago
And of course good tactics and style of play
