" It had been a long time coming & a game of 2 halves "

It had been a long time coming so this win over Birmingham will come as a massive relief for Russell Slade.

The Bluebirds boss has never quite been able to get the balance right at the club. When he first arrived the Bluebirds could not stop winning at home, but could not buy a victory on the road.

Now, after three away wins on the bounce, the last home win had been way back on January 10 when they overcame Fulham.

Slade will see this result as a bit of a monkey off his back.

The only trouble is, of course, that the recent up-turn in results has come way too late to have any real impact on the Bluebirds season.

The one thing you would have to say about Cardiff is that they just cannot seem to get a consistent performance over 90 minutes together.

In the first-half here they looked dreadful, but then again so did Birmingham. It was actually pathetic to watch that opening 45 minutes.

Both teams seemed clueless as to how to actually string a number of passes together and the idea of creating a chance seemed an alien concept.

Cardiff had slightly the better of it, but again the second-period saw a dramatic improvement from both sides really and a lot more incident to report on.

The opener from Eoin Doyle and the penalty from Peter Whittingham crowned that much-improved second-half display and earned Cardiff a deserved win.

But Slade will be confused as to why his side just can’t seem to turn things on for the whole of the match.

Who wrote this? It was a boring first half and we created nothing but I wouldn't go as far as dreadful.
