My View

Doyle is a honest, hard working player, gives 100%, but I feel he is a 3rd division player.

" HIGH PRAISE "

High praise for Dubliner Eoin Doyle as he seals Cardiff win

Irish Papers

22/03/2015

Doyle scored his first goal for the club just after half-time before winning a penalty that Peter Whittingham converted with 15 minutes to go to put the game beyond the reach of the Blues.

It ended a run, stretching back to January 10, of seven home games without a win for the Bluebirds in all competitions.

Bluebirds assistant boss Young said: "Since the New Year we've been in good positions in a few home games but not quite got over the line so it's very pleasing to get the win.

"I thought Eoin and Matthew Kennedy changed the game for us when they came on.

"Eoin has been very unlucky not to get on the scoresheet since coming to the club in January but we have always known he has plenty of quality.

"He made a real impact and it's nice to see him get the goal his performance deserved.

"As a side we are showing a lot more resilience and to get another clean sheet is very good.

"The whole team is working hard and we want to finish as high up the league as possible."

Birmingham manager Gary Rowett refused to do the post-match press conference after being sent to the stands for arguing with the referee in the second half but assistant manager Kevin Summerfield was scathing about his side's display.

Summerfield said: "This will be a kick up the backside for us, the players will really have to roll their sleeves up now for the rest of the season because it will have a big impact on what happens next year.

"That performance was not up to the standards that we have set ourselves this season.

"Our passing and general play was not right, we tried to change the system a little bit and maybe that had a big effect on the players.

"But the players have to take some responsibility, they should be frustrated with that performance and we have made sure they are aware of that.

"Gary was obviously very frustrated, there was a throw-in that had gone out of play next to us which we felt was clearly our ball but the assistant referee gave it the other way.

"He (Gary) did not swear but he made the point to the referee that the assistant referee and linesman were far away but he threw the ball down and that was enough to see him get sent to the stands.

"We are not going to blame the referee for the defeat, they have only got a few seconds to make a decision but we didn't think it was a penalty and that killed the game off."

Let his performances decide. There was nothing "third division" about him yesterday but time will tell.

I think he lacks enough pace to be a top striker but he knows where the goal is, good at finding space.

Doesn't serve to be 4th choice, would have liked to have seen him alongside Revell.

I disagree,i feel hell become a good championship striker
Would love to see him play alongside Joey Mason

Much better than 3rd division in my opinion and his introduction, along with Kennedy was a game changer yesterday. In my opinion he runs the channels between the penalty area lines better than any other player at the club, with the exception of Mason, and it was that movement in and around the penalty area which brought the win.

The lad doesn't have raw pace and I don't think you will see him carry the ball 30 yards and score but when you have a good player like Kennedy creating space to cross he will be looking for a player on the move in the area, that player is Doyle in my opinion.

League tables don't lie and we all know yesterdays game was between 2 average teams, both safe with little to play for, but we proved to have the greater quality on the bench to change things.

In my opinion that gives us some hope for next season.

I think Doyle has the potential to do very well for City. From the little we have seen from him, He could develop into a good Championship player. He knows where the goal is, run into space, is hungry and passionate to win his place. I would like him to have more opportunities to prove his worth. Perhaps Revell's injury will provide him with the chance.

The alternative (assuming Revell is out for a while and Mason isn't available just yet) is Macheda and Jones :o Both lazy, disinterested and lacking any passion. Jones, previously a Premiership player, was terrible yesterday. I know he is used as a "target" man for his size and I get that. But he missed two sitters - I think I could of scored from where he was played the ball and I'm an old fart :old: I think Doyle or Revell would have put those away. He seriously needs to practice a heck of a lot more using his feet (being a striker includes the ability to use your legs/ feet to score not just your head) and take up some rigourous jogging ;)

It's a bit early to say, but Cardiff fans write players like Gestede off far to quickly, who's to say he won't be as good one day ????

We haven't seen no where near enough of him to label him a 3rd division striker, bit harsh. Does lack pace but could do a decent job finding the net. time will tell

It prob is harsh, but Ive spoken to many fans from Yorkshire clubs, Sheff Wed,United,Leeds,Barnsley and Boro and all their clubs looked at him and said No. I was prepared to give him a chance, still am,but my gut feelings are they are all right.
We were also the only club to actually ever bid for him.
A battlet,honest lad,gives 100% :thumbright:

I have been watching since late 60's with a season ticket for last 20 years but don't think i'll renew next year and that's got nothing to do with Tan/rebrand/shit football etc but all about how 'modern' football has changed the match day experience - just no excitment at all anymore and been going for last few years out of blind loyalty than any real enjoyment.

Took my nephew to his first game and doyle gave him his foundation shirt the player was wearing before the game so hopefully he was a good luck charm

You don't score 27 goals in Div 1 in an average side by being a 3rd Division player, when he settles and given some service he'll score more than Ravell & Jones put together.

Yes he scored 20 odd goals for a 3rd division side in a 3rd division League :thumbright: :thumbright: Previous seasons?

This is the Championship?

Yeh but my lack of positivity in that post was directed at modern football and not the club we both!! profess to support

Similar amount of goals to Rickie Lambert scored two seasons in League 1 for Southampton.
