"Our Desire To Return To The Top Flight Remains"

Fri Mar 20, 2015 10:28 am

Had my renewal pack through this morning and the first thing that stood out in the the letter from the CEO are the words "our desire to return to the top flight remains". Is this misleading or does it mean in the next 15-20 years?

I question how the club can have the desire to return to the top flight if you sell or loan out all of your quality players. To get to the Premiership you need a decent team with quality, so if you ship out all of your quality and rely on bargain basement players how does the club expect to achieve this?

I am all for running a steady ship but let's be honest if you offload your better players to save money then you are not going to get anywhere near promotion. The statement seems to infer that the club want promotion now whereas the actions they are taking looks like it could be some way off.

We are getting rid of players who are not able to get us to the next level, you wait and see the quality players we bring in summer time

Obviously having a laugh, it is frightening of the quality that has been allowed to leave and what we are bringing in. There is no doubt that the summer will see more decent players leaving with cheap options coming in. The quality is being ripped from the team. If it continues then we will be in a relegation fight next season.

I agree to an extent in that I am sure we are looking at relegation next season. But I do wonder whether you are exaggerating the "quality" we have lost. Only Brayford for me comes into that category.

This squad needs to be broken up, that's the truth

And only way to do that is to get rid of players? But that is not acceptable to people on here!

I don't think that I am exaggerating the issue. The fact is that we have let decent players like Daehli, Brayford, Ravel Morrison albeit whilst on loan plus Guerra/ Le Fondre/ Connolly have gone out on loan but the players being brought in are not of the same standard. Yes the club want their get their finances in order but to what extent? Based on our current squad there is no way that we will be challenging for promotion next season and there may well be more departures in the summer (Manga, Marshall). If the squad needs to be broken up then why not bring in some quality instead of cheap bargain basement players. Doyle looks the only decent capture for the future.

The club and players need a clear out, to many very average players no doubt on huge wages, the test will be to see who we bring in. Im not expecting a lot but that's not to mean it wont happen.

I have been contemplating letting rip today but decided against it and trying to calm down,

It's going to be very poor standard of football next season I predict, and they still want a £30 admission fee that goes straight to Tan's pocket  that's all i'm wanting to say at the minute.

Hes Only brought in couple players to shore up what was a dreadful team!! Despite supposedly talented one at that!! Its worked as wont be relegated, Bournemouth is latest in numerous div 1 clubs who bought lower league players and look how well they are doing! Ffs norwhich went to premier on lower league players!! So many boringly doom and gloom merchants on here even before next season Start's? :o :o

It's not being a doom and gloom merchant but what it is is being realistic. Can you honestly say that we have enough quality in our squad to achieve anything next season? If you ask the bulk of fans the answer will be no! We have improved slightly over the last month but we are miles behind the top teams. Yes, there is the summer transfer window and let's wait and see who is brought in but based on the dealings over the past 3/4 months I would not raise expectations. Sometimes you have to be realistic.

Quality next season?? Sorry no one knows what will happen over summer but for past couple weeks all we have is we will get relegated club is crap getting rid of players ect ect! As I've said other teams have done exceptionally well with div 1 and 2 players, why can't we? Or are we not capable of doing same?

Yes, teams can do well with team spirit and playing as a team etc, but based on our performances over the past 3 months and our transfer dealings do you feel confident that we can do something next season? Obviously I want us to succeed but I am being realistic and not raising my hopes based on the above two factors. Time will tell.

Well, we got team spirit and things are slightly better so you never know a bit of shrewd buying in summer anything is possible!
I'm not gloomy about next season as its not here yet! And based on recent performances while lots need to be done it's not inconceivable that we wil do well .

Daehli - exactly how many good games did he have for us?
Le Fondre - what was his goal scoring record for us?
Morrison - loan player with huge issues
Brayford - average for us, heart not in it
Connolly - rarely played at his preferred CB position and a very limited ful back
Guerra - admittedly a strange one but he's a legend to some based on what he may have done.

I don't think we will miss any of the above.
