Do you honestly think its appropriate to bring kid's on school night for mid week games. My 10 year old is in bed at 8.30.

Parents like you are why kids these days are so sheltered. Get your lad down the city watching the game and screaming at referees. The middle class make me sick.

Most ten year olds would rather play minecraft while festering in the untidy rooms on the xbox these days than watch football

Some of the games witnessed this year could be deemed a form of child abuse

I don't take my 10 year old son on a school night, although he is a massive Cardiff fan (his second year as a season ticket holder) and wants to come. Sorry, but his education comes first. Otherwise he wouldn't be asleep before 10.30. No problem with school holidays. It's not about being over protective, it's about being a responsible parent.

Good for you.
In this day and age, it's refreshing to hear.

If he/she is in bed by 10:30pm, one night a week, he/she is still looking at 9 hours sleep which is well over the amount a child should be getting.
Education should come first, but a child still needs a childhood and hobbies. My nephew is loving going to watch Cardiff with his dad at the moment, and can only go in the week because of work commitments. The fact he has the same hobbies and interests as his father has now made them closer. What's more important, a relationship between father and Son, or getting over 9 hours sleep.
Different situations bring different views. I don't see why any parent should be able to tell another parent not to do certain hobbies with their children, because they don't think it's right to do it with theirs.

Always bring our 4 kids to the games, individual preference I suppose...
My boys can function perfectly well after a late night once in a while, and my youngest is 6. Their education doesn't suffer from the odd late night either.

Your child will end up like Ed Miliband if you keep them sheltered. If that's being a responsible parent then God help us all. Going to the football they will make friends, become more socially aware and intelligent and this could help them in their day to day life as they have to do presentations, meet and talk with others such as customers or fellow employees etc. Some of the most socially awkward and inept people I know are people with great grades and had parents who pushed them too hard to do well in school. Quite honestly, I'd rather a kid more rounded as an individual with great interpersonal/intrapersonal skills and skills for life.

Ed Miliband is a cretin, Can't stand him. How he's still in politics is unbelievable really.

I still go on school nites but never feel like going in the next morning......trouble is I am the Teacher.

I'm 11 and I normally go to bed at about 9:30. I've always been aloud to go to the evening games by my parents. It's no big deal for me.

you make me sick. next you'll be allowing your child to walk to school without a police escort or climb a tree. next time just let him watch TV or play on his playstation. much safer and he'll get his full quota of sleeping hours which will prevent him getting aggressive cancer and AIDS (allegedly).
Well actually I am recovering from cancer, if that makes you feel better.
Personally, your opinion doesn't mean anything to me. Your moronic comments shows the level of your education doesn't it.

Rather a chav than be a working class/lower middle class delusional toff wannabe. Off you go back to your corner comfortably and safely protected in your bubble wrap Lord Sheltered. Your lad probably thinks you're a boring old fart and has Babestation on the go in his bedroom anyway. Give it a couple more years and once the hormones kicks in he'll punish you for being overprotective by phoning Randy Rita and running up your phone bill.

i just received a warning for making a reference to cancer. presumably someone went whining to a moderator, like a child at school to a teacher (how apt).
presumably the AIDS reference is fine though

. can i refer to the common cold? you have to try pretty hard to take offence at my comment when looking at its context.

When I was 10 in the sixties I used to meet a few school mates & we used to go to the night matches on our own.
Round the back of the Grange End, nick in for nothing if we could, watch the match, walk home & up for school the next day.
Funny enough, I used to walk to school on my own as well. No parent to hold my hand or drive me to school ffs.
Ok, when my kids were 10 I wouldn't let them go on their own but come, what's the harm?!!

I think that's a totally fair comment. Each parent is responsible enough to decide what's best for their children. My view is that I don't want my son to be out late on a school night. My view is that he will grow up soon enough and can go when he is a bit older. That's my choice. Anyway, my son has probably been to games more consistently than a lot of others on here

Other parents should also not be judged if they decide that it's okay for kids to occasionally be up late. That's none of my business or anybody else's either. I didn't intend to sound judgemental and if I did, then I apologise.
What is not appropriate is for some people on here to say that my decision "makes them sick" or to start bringing in offensive comments referring to very serious illnesses like AIDS or cancer. This has absolutely nothing to do with whether you should take your child to an evening football game. And yes, because I nearly died from cancer and endured many hours of painful surgery and medical treatment I found it very inappropriate and offensive. My wife and kids also suffered very much during this time.
Also, for the record it was not me that reported the earlier poster to the moderators. Maybe, the moderators took an independent view that such comments were not appropriate for a football discussion forum.
Anyway, enough said. I'm happy to discuss football matters with Bluebird fans anytime.
