' Cardiff City 1 v 1 Bournemouth match report: Bluebirds battle to grind out hard-fought point '
Russell Slade's men went behind early in the first half but they grafted hard and got their rewards when Bruno Manga equalised just after the hour mark
Championship leaders Bournemouth played a league match in Cardiff for the first time in 14 years - and went home with a point.
The last time the Cherries faced the Bluebirds in a league was during 2001 at Ninian Park and the result was 2-2.
Eddie Howe, their manager, was playing that day and his assistant, Jason Tindall, scored.
This time Harry Arter fired Bournemouth ahead in the first half and Bruno Manga equalised on 62 minutes from a Peter Whittingham corner.
Arter, returning to the team after suspension, smashed a shot from 30 yards into the roof of the net after 16 minutes.
That proved the only goal before half-time, but Bournemouth dominated and had 77 per cent possession.
Than, just after the hour, Whittingham’s outswinging corner was perfectly placed for Manga to head home from 15 yards.
City made two changes from the starting line-up at Brentford with Kenwyne Jones in for the suspended Federico Macheda and Matt Connolly replacing the injured Lee Peltier.
Manager Russell Slade opted for the physical pairing of Jones and Alex Revell in attack.
They worked hard, but didn’t really hit it off together.
