Will we see Declan John again?

Barnsley apparently would like to keep Declan John Permanently if they get promoted this season to the Championship.

How much is he worth?

250k hopefully, personally don't see a lot in him other than the fact he is home grown. Good running with the ball but that's about it. Id loan him out again next season and see if he develops and if not then sell.

Whatever we may sell him for, it's imperative that we start to negotiate reasonable sell on clauses for young players we sell from now on.

Historically we used to get stung because we were desperate for extra cash up front to pay the bills and we had to forego sell on clauses. This should no longer be the case and we need to play hard ball if we get rid of any talent with the potential to flourish in the right environment.

Declan has the ability and he could end up being a premiership player, albeit he would need to improve his defensive game significantly. let's not regret another youngster being sold for cheap only to reappear in the premiership or be sold for a multi million fee in the future with no sell on clause.

We need a min 10% sell on clause.

Am all for Declan and would love to see him given a go here, i also think if we had signed him from another club fans wouldn't have given him the time of day. I get that because we all want our own to succeed, but in reality I don't think he is that great. Would you have him ahead of fabio Ralls or Malone? I wouldn't. Wish him all the best if this happens.

if we sell at rock bottom prices, we really ought to be aiming for more like 30-40% of any profit made by the club selling on our players. when arsenal sell youngsters for relatively low fees they get around 50% of the profit made by the club.

john is worth much more than £250k. decent left backs are hard to come by and he has potential even if he needs to work on his weaknesses.

While I agree with you, it's quite important that a defender can defend

Tbh I think he will play as a winger when he matures a bit.
That's where he played before Malky converted him to a LB.
So needing to defend isn't that big of a deal for a winger.

I hope he comes back a better player than he already is. It'll be interesting to see where Barnsley play him as I think he needs to find a position, whether it's full back, midfield or on the wing and stick to it. I'd reluctantly sell him for £500,000 if he wants to go with a huge sell on clause.

He's overrated massively. Since Bale became a maestro after his early years as a full back everyone seems to have jumped on this bandwagon where they expect the same of loads of others. He's not that good. Goes missing a lot.

He is a local lad who played in the premier league. He is only 19 and can still develop a lot in the future. He is exactly the kind of player Cardiff should wish they had 10 more of. Cardiff should do everything in their power to help him develop into a good player, and inspirator to other local lads to work hard and follow their dreams. It should be the foundation of every forward thinking club. It makes the signing of Malone and sending John out on loan seem bizarre.
