Cardiff City boss Russell Slade warns 'more changes will come if we don't continue to improve'

The Bluebirds away form has picked up in recent weeks, unbeaten in five on the road, but they've been unable to get results at the Cardiff City Stadium

Bluebirds boss Russell Slade heads into tonight’s big Championship clash with table-topping Bournemouth warning his players they’re fighting for their Cardiff City futures between now and the end of the season.

City’s 2-1 victory at promotion-chasing Brentford on Saturday made it three away wins on the bounce for Slade’s Bluebirds, but at home they’ve been far from convincing with just one Championship victory in 2015 – a 1-0 win over Fulham way back on January 10.

Their poor home form leaves Cardiff rooted in mid-table and Slade has challenged his team ahead of hosting free-scoring Bournemouth tonight: “Now we have to get it right at the Cardiff City Stadium.”

And in a pointed message to the players Slade added: “Every single point is worth something and they are our barometer. Our points tally will show whether we are stagnating and if that happens I will be looking at even more changes in the summer than originally planned.”

Despite just one home win this year, Slade admits he’s seeing shoots of progress at the club ahead of back-to-back home clashes with Eddie Howe’s Cherries tonight and Birmingham on Saturday.

“Our three away wins have shown that character, determination and spirit is growing in the group,” added the former Orient manager.

“We are progressing and going in the right direction. Gradually we are getting there. Now we have two tough home matches and we must face up to the challenges they will bring.

“There will be ups and downs because our squad is a work in progress, but there is a good feeling, great togetherness, between all the players. We have narrowed the group down, while we have a few players (Joe Mason, Anthony Pilkington and Kagisho Dikgacoi) to come back between now and the end of this season.

“We need to pick up as many points as possible over the rest of this season and then the next stage is to continue restructuring in the summer. We are going in the right direction and even in defeat against Charlton we produced a decent team performance. If we keep going the way we are and keep working for each other, we will pick up points.”

Bournemouth come to South Wales after winning three successive matches, scoring 11 goals and conceding two, while Birmingham are unbeaten in four.

Cardiff could move into the top half of the table with a win against Bournemouth if Charlton, who are at Blackpool, and Sheffield Wednesday, who travel to Wolves, slip up.

I think everyone knows that there will be a lot more changes during the Summer, with more being shipped out than In, in my opinion.

That won't necessarily be a bad thing, provided the New players In are of a decent quality & temperament.

I don't know why any of you bother listening to the guy (I certainly don't) as he has little to offer in reasoned debate (remember he walked out when Wathan asked him 'uncmfortable questions) and absolutely nothing when it comes to 'geeing up' supporters with rhetoric they can accept as being feasible!

The guy as a manager (not necessarily as a person) is not right for our club and even with some slightly more positive results (if not 90 minute performances) of late I would prefer someone else in charge come pre-season in July

The paying supporters of Cardiff City FC aren't stupid when it comes to their team on the pitch and know when things are not right with players, managers, referees, etc. and of late the overwhelming criticism is of the manager and his team selections/formations

Sadly, Russell Slade is not for me and I switched off to his computerised rhetoric some time ago!

Sadly, I'm one of them and I don't usually 'knock' players or managers of our club!

It may well be the after-effects of The Premier Adventure or even a spin-off from all the Tan stuff, but if ever there was a time where decent leadership and some tidy results were required, it is now!

But we haven't got it and I go to games almost out of habit than with any expectation at the moment and that hasn't happened in a long, long time! :(

Doesn't matter. Sade simply didn't have (or want to give) the answers! Wathan is biased, but no worse as a reporter than several others (Tucker being the worse of the bunch IMHO) ;)
