Cardiff City will not appeal Kadeem Harris red card as tackle victim says: 'I was lucky not to suffer broken leg'

By Simon Gaskell

Cardiff City have revealed they will not appeal the Kadeem Harris red card against Brentford as the player on the end of his tackle said: “I was lucky not to suffer a broken leg.”

Harris was dismissed on a straight red card after 78 minutes when he lunged into a challenge with Brentford substitute Alan Judge.

“I was lucky to escape that tackle without being injured,” said Judge. “Kadeem is not that sort of player and we both went in looking to protect each other, but it was lucky my leg was off the floor or, touch wood, I would have been looking at a broken leg.”

Judge, though, stayed on after Harris departed and finished the match saying: “My knee is fine.”

Cardiff City boss Russell Slade had indicated after the match that while the club would not contest Federico Macheda's subsequent dismissal for two bookable offences, they would review Harris'.

Slade said: “He didn't have a choice with Macheda but I don't think there was anything malicious with Kadeem. He's not like that.”

However the Bluebirds have now confirmed they will not launch an appeal and Harris will miss three matches starting with Tuesday's home game with table-toppers Bournemouth.

Meanwhile Brentford striker Andre Gray said he believed Cardiff’s equaliser on Saturday, scored by Federicho Macheda after goalkeeper David Button and defender Harlee Dean got themselves into a tangle, was the decisive moment in the match.

I'm stunned we're not appealing. It was an ugly looking challenge, but Harris took a bit of the ball first, then followed through with his momentum. It wasn't 2 footed and his studs weren't showing. 2 committed players went in hard for the ball and Harris got there first. The fact Harris took the ball first before the man means it wasn't even a foul, nevermind a sending off. It doesn't surprise me mind as when you see Ibrahimovic getting sent off, it seems any slide tackle is an automatic red these days. We would be applauding hard, determined tackles like that 20 years ago, but the game has gone soft and it isn't allowed anymore. It's a shame.

It is no doubt a red card . Harris is out of control when he lunged in with both feet . He has shown total disregard to the safety of his opponent .

Whether he got a touch of the ball is irrelevant ( which he didn't if you care to watch a replay ) .

The game thankfully has moved on from the 80s .

Macheda's red card couldn't be contested even if Cardiff wanted to .

I think the reason why there is no appeal is that Khadeem has gone in with studs showing whilst Judge hasn't. Terry Phillips described it as a two footed challenge, which is clearly isn't, but with studs showing and lunging it is nowadays considered a "Reckless Challenge", and therefore serious foul play.

3 games for Khadeem to think about it I'm afraid.

It is using excessive force . Reckless is only a caution .

It is probably true to say that under the modern day laws Leeds would never had been half as successful under Revie . Youngsters of the modern day era may remember that awful challenge that Vinny Jones committed in the 88 cup final not to mention Gazza a few years later .

Red card offences in this era but not then .

No doubt about it in my opinion. Definite red.
