DID SLADE GET SELECTION AND TACTICS RIGHT?

By Terry Phillips

He certainly did. There have been loads of negative comments aimed at Russell Slade, but give the guy credit when it’s due.

Brentford love to attack and encourage their full-backs to get forward. Part of Slade’s plan was to make sure his team exploited the space behind them when they did - and Revell’s winner came when he ventured into space left by the Bees’ left-back.

Slade set his team up 4-4-2 with Matthew Kennedy and Craig Noone wide. Kadeem Harris took over from Kennedy at half-time.

Brentford played 4-2-3-1 and after dominating the first half they faltered as City took the initiative and the points.

Cannot argue with the last two away games, would like to see him get the selection right on Tuesday as I don't think he did against Charlton :bluescarf:

The main reason was the opposition strikers were not hitting the net more than us playing well :bluescarf:

Their shots were dire and someone like Cameron Jerome would of had 5 against us. But better to be lucky than good sometimes and revell s goal came from him exploiting lb space and nice thru ball from Kiko. So can't argue about tactics :bluescarf: RUSSELL DO THE AYATOLLAH :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I'm not sure he did to be honest.

Whilst it was 11 v 11 we were being completely outplayed by Brentford as we are in most games under Slade and let's be honest, both our goals came from goalkeeping howlers by their keeper (though take nothing away from Revell's finish - that was class) rather than any creativity on our part.

I was surprised to see Ralls come on for Peltier when we had Malone on the bench especially as it meant Fabio going to right back where he is not quite so comfortable as on the left, but after Ralls was skinned by their winger a few times in the first half he did quite well in the second.

Once we went down to 10 men of course "tactics", such as they were, went out of the window and it was all hands on deck.

Still not willing to give him much credit I'm afraid ( :laughing6: ) but credit to the players for a great rearguard action.
