' Cardiff City boss Russell Slade hails Bluebirds' spirit after surviving Brentford's 'Alamo' '
Slade's men produced a resolute display in the face of a Brentford onslaught to secure a third successive win on the road
Russell Slade admitted his heart was in his mouth as nine-man Cardiff survived Brentford's 'Alamo' to claim an impressive victory at the promotion-chasers.
But the Bluebirds boss has vowed his men will make the most of the victory as they hung on to secure a third successive win on the road.
Andre Gray had given the hosts the lead on 28 minutes when he made the most of Simon Moore's spillage before Federico Macheda was gifted a 53rd minute leveller after David Button's own blunder.
And then Alex Revell scored a wonderful chip when Button was caught out of his area 15 minutes later, Cardiff managing to protect their lead despite Kadeem Harris seeing red for a off the floor tackle and Macheda picking up two bookings.
“I didn't think the game was going to explode into that in the second-half,” said Slade. “Brentford had deserved their lead, they were the better side even if there were not a lot of opportunities for either side.
“But the important thing was we stayed in the game and got in the driving seat after an excellent goal from Revell.
“And we showed great character at the end when it was like the Alamo with crosses raining in from every direction and there were bodies on the line.
“My heart was in my mouth and I've not seen anything like those last ten minutes and they could have quite easily snatched something.
“But that spirit is growing all the time and we are improving all the time and this win will do the group the world of good.”
Slade admitted Brentford had a shout of a penalty at the death when Kenwyne Jones appeared to block a Tommy Smith shot with his hand and had no complaints about Macheda's red that will rule him out of Tuesday's game against another promotion-seeker in Bournemouth.
But he did claim he would review Harris' 78th minute red for his challenge on Alan Judge, adding: “He didn't have a choice with Macheda but I don't think there was anything malicious with Kadeem. He's not like that.”
Slade could be without Lee Peltier for the visit of the Cherries who went off with a suspected groin strain 12 minutes into the clash, but he has insisted he doesn't want a let up from his players adding: “What I have told them is that we are fighting for every point because from now and the end of the season is important to use because it's a barometer of how much we are progressing. We have to be able to measure our performances.
“It's another win away and it will be nice to back that at home but it won't be easy.”
Beaten Brentford boss Mark Warburton said: “We made two mistakes and conceded two goals. Apart from that we dominated.
“Their intention was clear to kill the tempo and intensity. That's fair enough, we have to deal with it, and we looked good for the 1-0 lead.
“But even though there was one team in it for 88 minutes at this level mistakes cost you dear.
“It was the Alamo at the end but we lacked a bit of quality and we were throwing balls into the box when we have players who are better than that. I thought it was a penalty at the end but it won't change the result.”

The guy is an idiot or Cinderella (because he is playing at it).
At least the fans who don't go can see the sky through the dust. He is and will do more damage before the Club realise and more fool them.
Cannot blame him, just like Moyes only Utd saw the light.
City don't come a knocking when it's too late.

Russell Slade pleased

Cardiff City manager Russell Slade was pleased with the resolve that his team showed during their 2-1 Championship victory over Brentford this afternoon.
Brentford dominated proceedings at Griffin Park, but second-half goals from Federico Macheda and Alex Revell gave Cardiff the three points.
Former Bee Kadeem Harris and Macheda were dismissed in the closing stages, but Cardiff held on for victory.
"It was an interesting game. I didn't think it would explode into life like it did in the second half," Slade told TeamTalk.com.
"Brentford were better in the first half and deserved their lead but the important thing is that we stayed in the game, got the next goal and then an excellent finish from Revell got us in driving seat."
The win took Slade's team up to 14th in the Championship table.

Personally I feel we are getting to what we are and will soon we what we are.
The best parallel I can give for that is around 10 years ago I knew this bouncer who was 17 stone of muscle. I was rushed into hospital over some stomach pains I had. Fortunately it was a false alarm but the ward I stayed in this bouncer was in as well. He had gained some stomach infection and had some serious operation. He was down to below 12 stones, walking around with tubes coming out of his stomach and now and them exposing a nasty smell from that region. A serious turn around in his life.
I mentioned in conversation to him if he had any plans. All he could say was let's see where I am after this all settle down. I would say we as a football club are in a similar situation as we have had some serious cutting operations over the last 12 months. Things will settle down and we will be able to take stock. However we will be able to rebuild if the will is there unlike my friend who we both know will never get back to being 17 stone of model status.

You know, it's funny. We had a great away win three away games ago... And another two away games ago... And another good show if effort and teamwork in the last game...
It's amazing that people say "one game" after each of these... Decent away wins... On the trot.
Next time people are slating him because we lost I'm just going to say "one game!!!!!!!"

Well 3 games whatever, if you see an improvement you have either never played football or don't understand it.
Just the type of supporter the club hopes for
