Russell Slade: " Players playing for their future "

Fri Mar 13, 2015 10:51 am

Russell Slade has warned his Cardiff City squad that they are playing for their futures at the club.

The manager off-loaded a clutch of players in the January transfer window and made it clear that there could be further departures in the summer.

Cardiff have 10 Championship games remaining, beginning with Saturday's trip to promotion-chasing Brentford.

"They are well aware these 10 games are important for a lot of reasons," Slade said.

"They understand there is a little bit of restructuring. They saw the restructuring go on in January.

"They knew that next opportunity will be the summer and it's important they work hard if they want to be a part of that process going forward. And I am sure they do."

Cardiff are again set to be without injured goalkeeper David Marshall for the trip to London.

The captain missed last Saturday's 2-1 home defeat to Charlton and is a "major doubt" for the Brentford encounter, but Slade said Marshall should be fit for Scotland's internationals with Northern Ireland and Gibraltar later this month.

Slade also said striker Joe Mason was close to a return to action after a hamstring problem, while Anthony Pilkington and Kagisho Dikgacoi were making progress with their injuries.

After Brentford, Cardiff face another top six side when Bournemouth come to the Welsh capital next Tuesday.

"I am really looking forward to these two games. I am hoping it shows us that we have made some progress and we are moving forward," Slade added.

Cant Slade make any statement without saying "Moving Forward" or "Going Forward" when he clearly has no clue what those phrases actually mean.

Sladey, even if we get a decent result, which I would love to see, doesn't mean the club is moving forward by any stretch of the imagination. It means we are doing what we have done for a decade, getting decent results at this level

I think we've got a reasonably talented squad of footballers and with the right manager, this squad as it is should certainly be capable of challenging for a play-off place.

It's the manager in my opinion who is failing.

I think he means the players are playing for my future!!!! The only way we are going to "move forward" is without him in charge

So Mr Slade says

"They understand there is a little bit of restructuring. They saw the restructuring go on in January."

So all the talented and young flair players know that they won't be here next year then.

Well that is progress of sorts

I would suggest it would be better if the Manager (I use the term loosely) was fighting for his future

The more this man talks, the more I fear for the Club

If they're any good, theyre on their way! We'll be left with a squad composed of Dads Army and the Teletubbies competing in the South Wales Echo Combination League!

lots of our players are on big fat contracts and won't be going anywhere if they don't find other clubs willing to pay them equally extortionate wages.

look at velinkonja. he is shit and not wanted here but will be drawing a salary from the club next season. we will probably just pay players to leave which isn't exactly chucking them on the scrapheap.
