Good pub on home match days

Thu Mar 12, 2015 10:33 am

Hi folks just a quick question for yous really.

Last year I was lucky enough to go to my first bluebird home game. Being a Cardiff city fan in Ireland I had never travelled over before. It was my stag do and I have to say I loved everything. Amazing city, great stadium, brilliant atmosphere. Not great result only drew 1-1 with stoke. However as it was my stag and I was with 12 lads we just bounced from pub to pub. This year I'm bringing my missus over so was hoping for a bit of a heads up on where to drink before the game and any idea of good spots to eat or drink over weekend. Cheers lads.

And before I get the usual plastic supporter comments as I'm not from Cardiff any of you try being a bluebird over here and putting up daily with arrogant utd n pool fans either looking down on you or patronizing you as a "small club" supporter.

Hi mate,

Welcome!

There's loads of tidy places to eat drink in the city. If you fancy a nice meal and drinks there's the brewery quarter behind the yard, off St Mary street or Mill Lane at the bottom of St Mary street with good bars and nice places to eat.

If you just fancy a bit of raucous matchday drinking then any of the pubs in canton and grange town really. The Westgate opposite the castle on the way to canton from the city centre may also be a good stop off.

Hope you have a good stay ;)

If you fancy Cardiff Bay, great choice of restaurants (just a short taxi ride from the CCS) that'll impress the missus and perhaps she'll get the bug and you'll get a few more trips over here.

Or like said above you want to get stuck in with other Bluebirds fans visit Canton/Grangetown, Canton has a few more boozers to choose from if you ask me.

Respect to you for supporting Cardiff though mate instead of the standard Liverpool, United, Celtic that the Irish like to follow. What made you support Cardiff then? Out of curiosity. :thumbright:

Welcome mate, I meet in The Sand Martin every home game with a good bunch of lads off this board such as Annis (aka Forever Blue), Carl (aka carlccfc) and others also so I would suggest going in there with your missus on the actual day of the match which is right on the grounds of the stadium, great carvery and other choices on the menu, nice atmosphere, good drinks and of course only 30 seconds from the stadium. Hope to see you in there soon
For drinks and restaurants over the weekend then any of the above mentioned from people would be great.

Cheers lads some great suggestions there. Not sure I want the missus to get the bug though. The lads from my stag were pissed off I'm going over with her they wanted to make it an annual lads weekend lol.

As for why im a bluebird it's pretty easy. I'm not too fond of the English. English leagues are the main league over here to view but none of English clubs appealed as I gpt little older. But game that made my mind up was the fa cup game in 2002 against Leeds. It was shown on bbc so was first time I got to see a full Cardiff game. And the passion just appealed to me plus the legend that is Graeme Kavanagh just pushed me over the edge. Cardiff became my club from that day.
