' Cardiff City striker Adam Le Fondre reveals shock at being told he could leave Bluebirds on way to a match '

Le Fondre has hit the goal trail for Bolton

Cardiff City exile Adam Le Fondre has admitted his shock at Russell Slade's decision to let him leave the club on loan, revealing the news was broken to him at an airport as the team travelled to an away match.

Le Fondre's January departure for the Bluebirds' Championship rivals Bolton surprised many fans after the former Reading man had been a first-team regular under Slade despite a lack of confidence in front of goal.

And the striker says the decision came out of the blue as he was told the day before playing a match against Middlesbrough in January

The 28-year-old, who netted just three times for the Bluebirds in 25 appearances, has scored three for Bolton in eight matches.

And he now believes his departure has been 'a blessing'

"It has been a bit hit and miss so far,” he said of his Cardiff career to date.

“It’s a massively attractive club which has everything in place to go straight back up to the Premier League but it’s sadly just not happened for them.

“It was a bit of an unexpected one really with me having figured so prominently for Cardiff this season.

“The manager spoke to me in the airport as we were about to fly up to Middlesbrough and explained that I could go out on loan if I wanted.

“Obviously it was a bit of a shock to begin with but once I’d got my head round the idea of playing elsewhere I threw myself into making the right decision for both me and my family," he told The Bolton News

Le Fondre has two years left on his Cardiff contract and is due to return to South Wales at the end of season. It remains to be seen if he is part of Slade's future plans.

For now, though, the striker is happy where he is.

“It has just been a really easy move for me,” he said.

“It’s better for me personally because I’ve got a young family who didn’t move down to Cardiff with me and stayed up here so to be able to go home to them every night has been really important to me.

“It was really hard in Cardiff without them but it was one of those things that had to be done.

“This move has been a bit of a blessing for me, to be able to get back up north enjoying my football and scoring goals again, so I’m really grateful for the opportunity.”

Explaining the reason behind Le Fondre's exit, Slade previously said: "In the short-term there's an opportunity for Adam to get some football and some confidence back.

"Any deal will not be permanent and will refresh himself. Forwards need to do that."

The timing of telling him in the airport just before flying to Middlesbrough is bizarre to say the least. What sort of mindset would he have been in if he had played? Not good Slade.

In my opinion, that proves that Slade really doesn't have a clue!

To get some football in and get his confidence back :ayatollah:

It sounds like Le Fondre doesn't want to come back.

Who could blame him under those circumstances.

Slade is utterly incompetent. Does he understand the concept of management and a big part of that role is to instill self-confidence.

It won't be long before fans start voicing their dissatisfaction much more loudly at the Stadium.

No youre right we're not shocked st this idiot, but after the ridiculous farce of changing a winning team on Saturday and getting egg all over his face, now we get more unsettling stories about Slade. I think there will be more revelations coming out in time! What a beauty he is!

Sounds like he is talking himself out of a return, don't go with airing private conversations in public.

No one can dispute that Adam Le Fondre struggled for goals in the first half of the season with Cardiff but the former Reading striker's exit to Bolton in January was still a surprise, not least to Le Fondre himself!

He's told the Bolton News that he was preparing for a game at Middlesbrough when he was informed at the airport by Russell Slade that he 'could go out on loan' if he wanted.

This 'shocked him' at first, more so as he was a regular for Slade, but as much as we appealed to him, which is why he signed for Cardiff, having weight up the pros and cons for him and his family he felt the loan move to Bolton was 'the right decision' in the end.

'It's a massively attractive club which has everything in place to go straight back up to the Premier League but it's sadly just not happened for them.

'It was a bit of an unexpected one really with me having figured so prominently for Cardiff this season.'

Since his move he's scored as many goals for Bolton, three, as he did for us but in just eight-matches and ultimately he feels that perhaps the move was best for him as he can now see his young family every night. They hadn't made the move to Cardiff with him, which is perhaps just as well at this stage! He said the move was 'a blessing' for him.

Le Fondre does still have another two-years left on his contract with us and as much as he sounds like he's enjoying his football with Bolton, with the suggestion being that he would be happy to stay with them, would letting him go be the best thing for Cardiff?

Played in the right role with the right supply Le Fondre has proven what he can do so I can't help but think we made a mistake in letting him go, in spite of his struggles in front of goal, but would make more of a mistake if we allowed this to become a permanent move!

Slade is coming across like the sort of guy who would buy a Bentley with a nice set of wheels, and then fit a set of Hyper Value tie on plastic wheel trims...

' Cardiff City striker was told he could leave the club at airport '

BY CHARLIE FIRTH ⋅ MARCH 11, 2015 ⋅

Cardiff City striker Adam Le Fondre says he was told he could leave the club at the airport as the squad were about to fly to an away game.

The 28-year-old arrived from Reading for £2.5 million over the summer during the rein of Ole Gunnar Solskjær as he looked to boost the sides attacking threat, to help fire the side back to the Premier League.

Le Fondre had previously said that the main reason he couldn’t turn down Cardiff was because of the manager and as a Manchester United fan he couldn’t turn down the chance to be coached by his hero.

Ever since the Solskjær came to an end, Le Fondre’s main reason for signing for the Bluebirds has gone and so after only scoring three in 25 City appearances he was loaned out to Bolton Wanderers, after being told he could leave at the airport on the way up to an away tie vs Middlesbrough.

Le Fondre told The Bolton News: “It has been a bit hit and miss so far [My Cardiff career].

“Obviously it was a bit of a shock to begin with but once I’d got my head round the idea of playing elsewhere I threw myself into making the right decision for both me and my family

“It has just been a really easy move for me.

The former Rotherham striker has the same amount of goals at Bolton in eight appearances as he did at Cardiff and is beginning to gain some confidence back.

Bolton are currently 18th in the Sky Bet Championship, having accumulated 41 points this season, whilst Cardiff have amassed 44 points and are subsequently 15th.

Why are the club signing players that are so inflexible in moving the family? Armed forces WAGs and kids move all over the country to be with the bread winner on a fraction of his wage
