When he arrived at the club, let’s not forget, Slade inherited a side from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that was fragmented and seemed to lack any sort of shape or philosophy.

Six months on and while steps have been taken to construct a coherent side progress seems tentative to say the least.

Slade spoke about partnerships, the fabled duos that seem to run through every successful outfit from front to back.

Under Slade the Bruno Manga and Sean Morrison partnership in the heart of defence seems the only successful one so far.

In midfield. Peter Whittingham and Aron Gunnarsson still have question marks over them despite their manager’s loyalty, but up-front has been the most disappointing of all.

Slade seems to want to play with a two-pronged strike force, but still seems unable to work out who the personnel should be.

Kenwyne Jones has at least scored goals, if not for a while now, and seems a definite starter, but who to play with him?

Federico Macheda is back and in vogue and two goals in two games is impressive.

But his partnership with Jones against Charlton never really sparked into life.

The pair had no understanding at all with each other and looked like they had just been introduced to each other prior to kick-off.

Slade seems unable to decide whether to stick or twist, but he has to find the men, let them settle and see where that takes him.

Macheda and Doyle for me......

Hopefully Macheda will score a few, enough to sucker another club in the summer to take him off our hands, and Doyle looks a willing grafter to create the space and chances for him.

While I agree with you a lot of our other strikers would have made a mess of that chance. He can finish

I disagree it was a sitter i think doyle would of scored that easily. I think we need to play doyle and kenwyne up front. Jones wins loads of balls in the air and very good defensive duties on corners.

From our options at the moment i agree with this

time to think about who will actually be here next season and get a partnership going
jones contract runs out in the summer so he will defo be gone (£37k a week ffs)
maybe ravell and doyle should start from now on until end of season

Guerra, LeFondre, Mason, Healey, Macheda, Revell & Doyle are contracted for at least next season
