Clark: Joe Lewis dropped as he won’t be here next season.
On a season long loan from Cardiff City
Thurs 5th March 2015
Lee Clark said Joe Lewis’ surprise axe from Blackpool’s squad last night was with the future in mind.
The Seasiders’ number one wasn’t even part of the travelling squad for the 1-0 defeat last night despite being in superb form in recent games.
Elliot Parish replaced regular keeper Lewis, whose mistake led to the only goal of the game.
But an honest Clark revealed his absence followed talks about his future. he explained: “I made a decision to give Elliot an opportunity. I have to see if he is part of the future here.
“I have had conversations with Joe (who is on a season-long loan from Cardiff) and I don’t think there’s a chance of doing anything permanent with him, so I have to look to the future. With the other loan players, there’s a chance of something for next season but that isn’t the case with Joe.”
The situation casts doubt over whether or not Lewis will play again for the club. Something Clark is refusing to rule out.
He said: “I don’t know if that’s the end for Joe. He’s contracted to us still.”

he's a good keeper, hope he finds a club next season

We may need him for back up for Moore when Marshall goes
But that's the whole part of a loan most players on loan don't sign permanent anyway that's no excuse not to play him

I reckon so as well

I believe and have been told City will try and sell Marshall this Summer along with other big names.

Marshall seems to like it here. If he doesn't fancy a move, and he's got a contract, he'll stay.

I think our club will feel angered by this development. The whole purpose of sending a player out on loan is so that he'll get game time and this will help his development - something the player's parent club perhaps could not guarantee, at the same time it helps cash strapped clubs like Blackpool to boost their waifer-thin resources.
Therefore, the last thing the parent club want to hear is that the player is twiddling his thumbs doing nothing ... that is of benefit to no one.

If I remember correctly, aren't they refusing to play him due to the bonus he gets for making x amount of appearances? Things must be bad there.

As long as they pay his wage.

Lewis set for Blackpool exit

Joe Lewis: Omitted from the squad for the match at Birmingham
Joe Lewis lost his place as Blackpool's first-choice stopper because he is unlikely to remain at Bloomfield Road next season, according to Seasiders boss Lee Clark.
The Sky Bet Championship's bottom club started with Elliot Parish, rather than Lewis - who was omitted entirely from the squad, in Wednesday night's defeat to Clark's old club Birmingham.
That prompted the question of where Cardiff loanee Lewis, who has arguably been the Tangerines' best player this season, was.
"I made a decision to give Elliot an opportunity; I have to see if he is part of the future here," Clark told the Blackpool Gazette.
"I have had conversations with Joe and I don't think there's a chance of doing anything permanent with him, so I have to look to the future.
"With the other loan players, there's a chance of something for next season but that isn't the case with Joe."
Lewis is on a season-long loan deal from Cardiff, and Clark added: "I don't know if that's the end for Joe. He's contracted to us still."

Clark might as well say "we know we're going down so we're getting our house in order for next season".
