Sad news today about the passing of Dave Galligan, at the age of 66. Dave was the head of the Confederation of Health Service Employees, (COHSE), in the 80s and early 90s, and later head of the health section of UNISON. Whatever views people may have about trade unions, Dave was a genuine bloke, and always had the interest of the NHS at heart. He was widely respected by management, politicians of all parties, and by health staff. Most of us who worked in Cardiff hospitals would have known Dave.
Dave worked as a porter in UHW, (the Heath), before going full time with COHSE. He knew the NHS inside out.
Dave was a lifelong City fan, sticking with the club throughout the most difficult of times. He was there during the fourth division days, where a 3k crowd was considered good. Dave had his retirement do at the City v Palace game, during the promotion season. He was a true Bluebird.
May he rest in peace.
