Was Saturday 'the new owner effect'

Mon Mar 02, 2015 6:54 pm

For 20 minutes at the start of our game on Saturday we looked better than we have in the last twelve games.

Was this a kind of 'new manager' effect that we see so often in football. We certainly slipped back into our old ways pretty quickly after Wolves scored.

Now I know we didn't have a new manager on Saturday but for most of the players, and even for Slade, it was probably the first time they'd met Vincent Tan in person.

I did notice that Slade actually moved around his technical area much more than normal. He usually just stands on the far left corner of his area with his arms folded but at times on Saturday he looked quite animated, gesturing to his players and generally giving out instructions.

Was he and most of his players desperately trying to impress the owner. We see that kind of approach when a new manager joins a club and for me our start on Saturday smacked of that.

What's really annoying is if they can do that for 20 minutes and just to try and impress the owner in order to justify their positions at the club why the he'll dont they do that more often.?
