Russell Slade attitude
By Paul Evans(the other bob wilson)
Do you get annoyed with Russell Slade when he talks about Cardiff City as if we were some sort of hicks from the sticks club that has miraculously somehow found it's way into the Championship?
Our manager seems to have an "underdog" mentality that sees him consider us to be facing huge odds every time we go out to face another Championship side - I'm still shaking my head at how we seemed in awe of Rotherham for most of the first half despite having won our five previous home games!
He was at it again before and after Saturday's match as he talked up Wolves as if we had little right to be on the same pitch as them.
Now, I've said a few times on here that I don't rate our squad as highly as many others seem to do, but, on the other hand, they are nowhere near as bad as our manager, by association, makes them sound as he builds up the sides we are about to face/have just played.
Even if we forget about the fact that we were playing at the level above this last season, is our manager aware that we spent a decade in the Championship before that and in only one of those seasons did we struggle to maintain our place in the division? In fact, invariably at this time of the season, we were more concerned with what was happening at the top of the table than the bottom of it.
There were of course times in those ten seasons when we had bad runs and there were plenty of poor performances to endure, but never did our manager speak as though we weren't in the second tier on merit.
Last season Malky Mackay used to get criticised for his defensive approach and it was true that we were cautious both at home and away in the first half of last season, but such an attitude could be partially justified by the argument that we were playing "bigger" clubs than us every week.
That should not apply any more, but, by his words and actions, Russell Slade sends out the signal that we have a similar attitude in 14/15 as Malky did in the first half of 13/14.
During the previous decade, Cardiff fans became used to seeing their side generally produce better results, and much more entertaining football, than Russell Slade's has done - our manager should realise that it is he, not the club, that is on trial at this level, just because our manager has an inferiority complex, it doesn't mean the rest of us have to have one as well.

Excellent post....I'm still at a loss to explain why this team is not in the top 10 and near the play offs
On paper we still have some really good players and a decent squad...but so far this season 2 different managers have been unable to get the best out of them

Paul for me the Rotherham game was Slade's defining moment, forget the transition nonsense, we went into that game 2 points off the playoffs and he once again set the team up trying not to lose, his continuing one dimensional approach that knows no end. The players are better than that and they know it, which explains their often bewildered approach to matches. He is way past redemption time & must go now.

Sounds like a loser and manages like a loser. No wonder we have only won 1 games against badly struggling wigan since mid Jan.

this mindset is now making it's way into the stadium, not just Russell's attitude needs changing. Performances this season have been unacceptable and in some instances, disgraceful

I actually cringe every time I see his face , name or hear him speak.

Great post
I just hope he isn't there next season, nowhere near good enough to manage at this level.

Very well said. Slade is completely out of his depth. He's like a rabbit in the headlights.

Slade should stick with bit-tv roles as in Stella...he's even crap in that but who cares?
