Peter Whittingham will be missing from Cardiff City’s starting line-up at Rotherham on Tuesday and manager Russell Slade says a battle has started to claim the vacancy.

Conor McAleny, Tom Adeyemi, Stuart O’Keefe and Joe Ralls are the main contenders to partner Aron Gunnarsson in central midfield while Whittingham serves a one-match suspension.

The ban will end Whittingham’s record of having played in every minute of all 34 of Cardiff’s Championship fixtures so far this season.

“We have to replace Whitts, there is no choice,” said Slade. “Those players who have stepped in, like Joe Ralls at Wigan, have done a really good job for us.


“There will be a fight on for the shirt and whoever starts will want to do well for us. Let’s see if we can bounce back on a cold Tuesday night in Yorkshire.

“Rotherham’s expectations will be to stay in the Championship this season and they are making a really good fist of it. They work exceedingly hard and I believe they will stay up, they’ll be fine.

“Rotherham have a great stadium and there will be a good atmosphere. They reverted to going a little more direct, having worked on playing a bit more football before that. They like to get the ball forward quickly and service the box. It certainly won’t be a stroll in the park at Rotherham. That will be a tough clash.”

I dont see this as a dilemma, I see it as a Golden Opportunity! Praise the Lord for small mercies! This will be the first match I'm looking forward to for a very long time!l

Totally agree Angelis. I can't see this excitement lasting long! Lol!

Ralls was the heir apparent to Whitts, it needs to be him.

No dilemma at all...Adeyami and Ralls for me..I honestly believe these 2 could do a better job than Whitts and Gunner at the moment

But Dinasour probably won't give them a chance unfortunately
