' Are they Championship Quality? '

Mon Mar 02, 2015 8:04 am

Both did very well at their clubs, but are they Championship quality Eoin Doyle & Alex Revell?

Interested in your opinions?

Opinion on Scott Malone?

Would these players take us up? or are they bottom of the Championship players at best?

Ive chosen these 3 players as they are fairly new signings, so far for me, they haven given 100%,but I am not sure if they are Championship level players and I am interested in other fans opinions?

Also, I know this sounds harsh, would they play better under a different manager?

In my opinion they are not championship quality, I think that Slade is still thinking about relegation and is looking to build a side that will compete at the top of league one.

Revell I'm not convinced by but Doyle could be improved with decent coaching in my opinion. He's young and will learn. :ayatollah:

Ravelle and Malone, no.

Doyle I like the look of in that he makes some very intelligent runs off the back of the defenders. We haven't found him enough yet to test his finishing but he was certainly very unlucky against Huddersfield. However, he does need to get on the end of Kenwynne's flicks and bottom line is that he will be judged on his goals.

Let's see how he goes over the next month but he looks like one who was worth taking a gamble on.

Championship yes, but take us up No. I do agree that Doyle may come good as he took a couple of months with his last club before he found the net and then couldnt stop scoring. Worth perservering with at the moment. His place will only really come under threat once Mason is fit. :bluescarf:

There are signs that all 3 could make it and signs that they are no better than what we had.Lets give it til the end of the season and then make judgement.
By the way age means nothing,if your old or young and are good enough that's fine by me.
One thing I do know is we all need to support everyone good and bad times :bluescarf: :ayatollah: :bluescarf: :ayatollah: :bluescarf:

doyles not going to do anything in this team. Doesnt mean hes not good enough for this level though.

Revell was first choice at rotherham wasnt he? and they were doing ok.

These are the players we are going to be relying on next season.

Fingers crossed Macheda and guerra (permenantly) can join Kenwyn out the door in the summer along with other high earners like fabio, Marshall and Manga (last two we might even get some money for!)

We could go even further. I bet whitts and Gunnersson have got to be on 50k a week combined at least. o'keefe coming in instead... is he good enough?

Time will tell.

So, let's get of all our best players, is it? We must keep Whitts, Manga and Marshall to have any chance next season. Malone is inconsistent, Doyle needs time to adjust and Revell will be okay as a squad player.

i'd sell them yeah.

Why do we need to keep whitts? there must be at least a dozen players already at this level doing better than him on half the money.

doyle looked well off the pace....so no i dont think so.....to be honest i havnt really noticed revell so i wont pass judgement..

It's hard to tell just yet, Doyle won't get goals in this team because of our tactics, they all look like good team players and to be honest the run we were on that's what we needed. Not sure if Doyle is any better than mason, maybe a bit taller and stronger

Hopefully, we will have the option of keeping McAleny (possibly wishful thinking). Together with Matty Kennedy, would provide a good basis for building the midfield.

I think Doyle could work out well if he's given the service.

Revell is uninspiring and was never a prolific goalscorer at Rotherham so not sure why we ever bought him.

Peltier looks like a very good buy though. I also think that Malone can improve over time (he needs to get stronger though and build himself up).

All 3 would do ok playing for a team with a decent manager and different tactics.

unfortunately we haven't got one

I reckon we were trying to shift Jones on

Doyle I like the look at, he works hard and gets into good areas but in this team any striker will struggle.

Revell again will struggle in this team like any striker but he hasnt overally impressed me in his general play.

Malone im not fussed on, had a good game the other week but generally looks dodgy, lower championship player.

Peltier is another id add as lower championship, solid at what he does but doesnt offer the team enough in my opinion.

Pmsl are you real ? Slade thinking of relegation lol

We've had our own players who were good goal scorers in the lower divisions, Carl Dale & Leo Fortune-West are just two names that spring to mind. Neither would have been prolific at the higher end of the football league, and I put these two recent signings at the same level. I said when we signed Doyle that I was concerned that nobody else seemed particularly interested in him, and from the little I've seen of him so far, I can't see him scoring a lot of goals at this level.

you realise that we qualify for lower championship ourselves now though?

Pelitier has looked like one of the better ones to me.

I don't think any of Slade's signings are championship quality. See Blackpoool this season. That will be us next year.

Re: ' Are they Championship Quality? '

Mon Mar 02, 2015 2:55 pm

I think Both Malone and Doyle are championship quality. Malone I feel is no worse than Andrew Taylor who was left back in our promotion season. As for Doyle I believe he will score a lot of goals for us, just needs a little time to adjust and to break his duck. Revell is a real hardworking player but unfortunately I don't believe he will succeed with us.

Cardiff may benefit playing in a system like Rodgers has deployed at Liverpool? i.e 3-4-3 ??

We have Manga,Connolly and Peltier/Morrison as a 3 at the back ..Both Manga and Connolly are comfortable on the ball

Pilkington/Nooneand Fabio/John wide with 2 from Gunnarsson,Whitts,Ralls,O'keefe,Adeyemi in middle and front 3 of Doyle,McAlney and Kennedy to move around and use their pace.

Thoughts???

I think Doyle will score shed loads of goals once he gets one. As for Revell, he looks a bit of a donkey tbh.

Re: ' Are they Championship Quality? '

Mon Mar 02, 2015 4:48 pm

I find it hard to judge the effectiveness of either Revell or Doyle as our midfield is not effective at creating decent chances for them. However, Doyle does look like he has a bit more about him but both work their nuts off defending from the front.
Apart from the Blackburn game I think Malone has been poor.
