A different view of Malky last night

Wed Feb 25, 2015 6:39 pm

I was at Wigan last night and would like to give my (probably less popular) view of Malky's so called reception from our fans.

First of all there was no clapping, cheering or singing of his name when he first appeared. In fact we were 10 minutes into the game before me and a mate even noticed him stood in his coaching area.

As far as I can remember there was one singing of 'let's all do the Malky' which he didn't seem to even acknowledge. That seemed to come following a period of boredom setting in after the football was once again not so good.

I heard one chant of 'do the Ayatollah Malky' which he seemed to respond to in a half hearted one handed effort.

There were 3 or 4 chants of 'don't text Malky' the 'you'll have a racist on your hands' version, which was sung by quite a number of our fans.

I went to the toilet at the final whistle but my mate stayed behind for some time and he didn't say there was a particular Malky love in after the match ended.

I really don't know why some of our fans still hold him in high regard. Sure he got us promoted but with huge amounts of backing. More importantly he played us fans like idiots just to disguise his own failings.

Whatever you think of his texts, and he's admitted himself that they were dubious in the least, I really think we should have been more behind our own side last night than wasting any time, good or bad, on Malky Malky.

You are right.
I'm all for respectfully remembering that Malky gave us some good days, but the players and managers here and now NEED our support and we should get behind them first and foremost.

It also annoys me when there is half hearted applause when our team is read out and then huge cheers for mediocre players who are returning with the opposition.

FFS 50p piece head Gestede got a bigger cheer than Marshall - our captain, one of the best British keepers and the best keeper we've had in the 35 years I've supported City, and a bigger cheer than Whittingham, 300 appearances and getting on for 100 goals, 4 or 5 times in the PFA team and scorer of half of the best goals seen at the CCS.
Not to mention Gunnar, Iceland captain who gives his all every week, Manga, absolute quality, Noone, Jones and others who have committed themselves to the club and are fighting to keep us up.

Let's back the lads in the City shirts with a respectful nod to those who've left.

Yes I totally agree, I will always applaud a returning player like Conway and gestede but that's it a quick clap. After that they are the enemy, smash them up on the air and give them stick. :bluescarf:

It was hardly a full passionate applauses for him but it was significant to show from those who appreciate his time with us.

It showed to me that most of us think his treatment has been over the top. The racist attacks have been blown out of all proportion and last night told me most of us agree.
