The 43-year-old will today take an advisory role at the League Two club and it could in time lead to him taking up a Director of Football position at Rodney Parade
Nathan Blake is poised to take a non-executive director’s role on the board at Newport County.
The 43-year-old will today take an advisory role at the League Two club and it could in time lead to him taking up a Director of Football position at Rodney Parade, WalesOnline understands.
One of Blake’s first tasks with the Exiles could be helping appoint a new permanent manager at County who have recently slipped out of the play-off places under caretaker boss Jimmy Dack.
Newport were rocked recently when Justin Edinburgh, who led the club back to the Football League for the first time in 25 years, jumped ship for League One Gillingham.

Blake was born in Cardiff, but raised in Newport having moved there at the age of three. He began his playing career as a youngster with Newport before moving on to become a trainee at Chelsea. He finished his playing career with a short-lived stint at County too.
The fans’ favourite came to prominence at Cardiff City before embarking on a high-profile Premier League career at Sheffield United, Bolton, Blackburn and Wolves. He played at Leicester and at Leeds for a short time too.

What anyone thinks of Blake's opinions on football, he is an ex-pro and will be an asset to County, something our club directors should be tapping into when making football related decisions is having a few ex-pro's on the board?

Since losing Justin Edinburgh, they need some experience on board and, with all due respect to Newport County, I can't imagine experienced ex-pros are jumping to be hired by them right now. I actually think Newport are a team that anyone with any ambition would want to get involved in. Think what you want about the place but the bottom line is that it's a city football club in League 2. Definitely got room to grow.

A good move for that club IMHO. Blakey has playing experience at the highest level in the UK. He has a foot in the camp already, having local knowledge and being a former player.
Newport have huge potential and could easily find themselves knocking on the door of the upper leagues if the club is run sensibly. Their recent dip in form does need addressing and it will be at management level that they need to react quickly.
Nathan is a shoe-in as a consultant/football advisor and I could see him carving out a new niche for himself there.
Is a rival needed so close to Cardiff? Probably yes! It would make for a more competitive edge and maybe eventually another South Wales Derby!!! Football in South Wales, joking aside, could become much more developed and the more it is on the map, the higher the profile it will have.
Good luck to you Blakey, but don't do too good a job!!

Horrible man. Used to idolise him back in early 90's when I was growing up. But since then he was involved in a property deal in Newport for a small new build development and he/his biz partner owed my father thousands of pounds which where never paid. Since then have absolutely no time for the wanker. Hope he bombs big time and ends up with nothing.
