' Troubled Malky Mackay admits sense of pride after Cardiff City fans chant his name at Wigan '
Former Bluebirds boss Malky Mackay was thrilled by the ovation he got from the travelling fans even though his Wigan team were beaten
Malky Mackay claimed hearing his name chanted by Cardiff City fans once more will live with him after Bluebirds supporters offered the Scot sympathy his former side did not.
Despite the scandal that followed the aftermath of Mackay's controversial Cardiff exit, the travelling supporters at the DW Stadium sang the former City chief's name early in the first-half of this crucial 1-0 Bluebirds win.
Troubled Wigan manager Mackay responded by saluting the away end with an 'Ayatollah' and later admitted a sense of pride that his achievements in winning top-flight promotion with the club had not been completely washed away with the text-gate fall-out following his sacking.
However, such support ended there as former Mackay player Aron Gunnrasson handed Russell Slade's side a much needed victory to end their extended winless run.
Still, quizzed on whether it was a tough evening given past events and if he wasn't sure of the reception he would receive from the away fans, Mackay said: “That was something I am immensely proud of. I had a terrific time at Cardiff, I loved the city and being at the football club.
“And I tried my very best for that football club so to get that response tonight will live with me.
“But overall it is a disappointing night against a defence we knew would sit-in. I asked my players to test the goalkeeper and we did, but we were playing against the best goalkeeper in the division and pulled off great saves.”
“We did breach his goal twice but the goals were given as offside– they were close but they were wrong decisions.”
Mackay bemoaned Cardiff scoring with their only obvious chance and hailed the “immense” performance of Kim Bo-Kyung, recently released by the Bluebirds.
But none of it put a dampener on the evening for Slade, who admitted struggling Wigan caused problems but insisted the improvements are starting to show in results.
Slade, who claimed the Mackay factor did not impact on his players during the build-up to the clash, said: “We have been solid and it is small progress not massive, but gradually we knew the results would start taking care of themselves.
“I was never overly concerned even when we were six points clear because the important thing was to get performances together and mould the group. Gradually feel like we're playing more like I want.”

I was there last night and I would say I was amongst the 75% who didn't chant his name.
The ones who did were taking the Piss singing don't Text Mackay.
Text gate call it what you want at the end of the day he had his hand in the till and will be found out.

Are you accussing him of stealing from the club?
If so do the club know? Have the police been informed?
Or are you just making it up?
Hopefully Tan investigaets your claims and when proven wrong the police can investigaete you for libel.
Many fans (more like at least 50%) were chanting his name, do the Ayatollah and lets all do the Malky - so not taking the piss.

I am glad some of the supporters thanked Malky the only fact is he got us to a wembley final and give Liverpool one hell of good game and then he took us to the premeirship the dreamland of football.
Malky's real problem was that he was so popular and a certain owner was jealous that same owner claims it was he who got us promoted not Malky his money helped but money is not everything you still need a good managerl and it was Malky picking his players who all would fight for him.
Hopwever as the owner wants to take claim to things he changed us to Red that cause a massive break up in the supporters of Cardiff City and he got us relegated from the Premiership by sacking Malky.
All other things are rumours and allegations, Kimbo going to play for Wigan under Malky says a lot to me and he has Not been charged by the FA.
Malky came to the funeral of Karen the member of staff and steward of the club that again proves a lot of what the guy is really like. Yes he made mistakes with some signings so did Sir Alex in his time so well done the travelling supporters who did sing his name

Sickening article to read IMO
Malky is gone we need to support the current manager and players not worry about the past
Wonder how the players felt hearing that shite last night
Would love one of them to come out honestly and so our fans are morons at times

Players thought it was great, how loyal and appreciative we were for what he did for the club, and it was not forgotten.
Kimbo also had a very good applause when announced.
So Cardiff fans do not boo past players just for the sake of it, but appreciate those who did well for the club.
Obviously, as you say, the players dare not say this or they will be sacked by dictator Tan.

Kimbo deserved his applause IMHO, as did Malky in appreciation of his footballing achievements at our club
I would have to draw the line at 'hero worship' though, as Malky was part of the demise this club in the last 12 months or so because of
HIS own actions as well as Vincent Tan's

Glad he got a good reception(as did Kim & Cowie) like many previous sevants have done, and deserved.
There really is some amount of shit being spewed on here just now. Our own players & manager showed how they felt at full time when they came over to the fans at full time.
