Unbeaten in 5 since Slade has brought his own players in!

Tue Feb 24, 2015 10:28 pm

I have always stuck up for Slade while others have called him clueless and out of his depth. Slade inherited Ole's squad and had his best players offloaded, but we are now unbeaten in 5 since Slade has brought in his own players. I said all along how well Slade did with Leyton Orient, assembling that squad with 30 free transfers and taking them within a penalty shootout to joining us in the Championship.

I did a post recently saying all we now need is that much needed win to merit our improved performances. Tonight we have finally got that win and we can push on from here. Our last 5 games have been 1 win, 4 draws, 2 goals conceded and only 1 of those goals have been conceded from open play, right at the death at home to Blackburn. We are now becoming difficult to score against and difficult to beat. Kennedy is proving a great signing and it's about time everyone starts giving Slade a chance and back him to carry on turning things around.

It would have taken any manager a few months to sort out Ole's mess. The Slade knockers can say it was only an out of form Wigan we beat tonight, but it was a vital win away from home and a clean sheet away from home. We are making positive steps in the right direction and I am looking forward to see if we can kick on from here and climb the table.

Great post. Anyone saying it was an out of form struggling Wigan has no argument anyway. For years we have wasted points losing against teams we should be beating. We have thrown away playoff opportunities getting beat by teams languishing much further below us in the table. You beat what is the opposition on the night. We beat Wigan 1-0 and that's 3 points in the bag and a good 3 points at that.

Or, to put it another way, since Manga got back from the African cup of Nations.

Top post and totally agree with you.

If slade continues to make us hard to beat then we can now work on our attack and goal scoring options.

Reminds me a bit of Malkys approach and everyone was happy to support him at the time!

While I agree Manga has definitely helped tighten things up at the back, Manga was also playing when we were sliding down the table under Ole. Like I said, it's time to give Slade a chance as we are making positive steps forward under him.

1 win in 5, 7 points from 15 in a month where some on this forum had forecast us winning almost every game in February given the opposition. In the same way as 1 defeat doesn't mean we are going to be relegated, 1 win doesn't suddenly make us a good team. Lets see where we are come the end of March before everyone gets too excited. We may all come down to earth with a big bump on Saturday.

It is small steps and we have stopped the rot, if we can produce a similar performace as we did against rovers then I will be more than pleased. :bluescarf:

I agree with all that, but we now appear to have a structure to take us forwards and I am feeling more positive than I ever did when Ole was in charge. It's good to see us battling as a more organised unit, a refreshing change to the disorganised mess Ole made us.

Manga made his debut in the game Ole was sacked after so only played one game under him.

Said very similar in another thread like to see anyone come in and deal with what he has in such a short space of time and still produce results is also no coincidence that we have played better since transfer window shut before this every player was at risk of leaving the club against their own will in some cases not a happy environment to play in contracts being terminated willy nilly players slade had used since day one leaving all of a sudden (Brayford)

Saving £12m mid season is absolute madness once again a big error by tan that could ahve cost us big time hopefully we get those 50 points swiftly now

I'm not saying this guy is the messiah but to question his ability from day one under the constraints he's had to work with is ludicrous

He's assembled some decent players here last month for absolute peanuts hopefully we can start doin a bit more with the ball now as well particularly at home

Good post and you are bang on with the part I have highlighted in bold. Slade has been given a near impossible task by Tan and the fans haven't helped at all. Hopefully we can build on tonight's win and some fans will begin to back Slade instead of slating him at every opportunity.

Besides being unbeaten there are signs of improvements in general play, When was last time a city player scored a goal like last night ? We are getting more crosses in despite handicap of noone being awful most season, :old:

how many of Slades players actually played last night?

Doyle and Kennedy is it isnt it?

Dont completely disagree with the sentiment though. I think manga coming back, along with Peltier looking a good signing so far has helped us shore up. Still severely lacking in midfield, but am hoping pilkington for noone might sort that out a little

The problem is that we are still finding it very difficult to score under Slade. I'm not convinced that the likes of Doyle and Revell have that quality to push for progression in the Championship. Although we shall see if they can get proper service from midfield.

Slade is making odd tactical decisions, comes out with a lot of rubbish in post match interviews and I think that's difficult to deny. For that reason I don't have the confidence that he can take us forwards in the longer term.

Delighted we got three points last night. However we got lucky with Wigan having two chances disallowed which were contentious. If those goals has been given I bet that there would not be those"told you so" posts now

Wolves will be a real test. A huge relief to get three much needed points though

You can't expect miracles overnight the Paul that's my issue

His job was always going to be impossible here

Says a lot when managers turn us down and some did

Don't care what anyone says doing what he has done mid season was a thankless task and he was always going to beat the brunt of it, ludicrous decision by the board to make so many changes mid season

Funny how we return to blue and the cuts get started isn't it yet all people can mention is slade this slade that

If we finish mid table or top half he's overachieved in the circumstances in my opinion

Reality check needed folks we will have a small wage and small transfer budget again next season mid table mediocrity is our next few seasons while we balance the books so vinny can sell up for a small LOSS

Re: Unbeaten in 5 since Slade has brought his own players in

Some of the games have been absolutely awful under slade. Mind numbingly, soul destroying.

But to want him sacked after a few months was ridiculous.

I have seen more organisation during the period of poor football than I saw in 10 odd months under Solksjaer.

We now have the club back in blue and a respectable manager in charge that understands the basics of this league, that results matter. I don't think we appreciate it at times, the return to blue. 5 months ago I hated to going to watch us, now I look forward to it.

No one gives a hoot about the style of football in this league. Winning is what matters and the new TV deal means we have to get promoted soon, otherwise we will be left further and further behind.

I am confident about our chances next year.

The only worry about Slade in my opinion is that he wouldn't cope if we did make it to the Premier League! (Unlikely as that might be). He seems to have stabilised a team that was in free fall and hopefully can secure a top half finish to make a disappointing season respectable.
