A STEWARD brought in for Swansea City’s match against Manchester United has been dismissed for unacceptable behaviour which allegedly included the Cardiff City trademark celebration the ‘Ayatollah’.
The steward, employed by Cardiff-based Safestyle Security Services, was thought to have initially incurred the wrath of home fans at the Liberty last Saturday with a high-handed approach to asking some of them to sit down.
Other stewards became concerned and ejected him. On his way out he is alleged to have made the head-slapping gesture synonymous with the Championship side.
Darren Edwards, managing director of Safestyle SecurIty Services, said: “We have been working with the Liberty Stadium for eight years or more. An investigation was carried out in relation to the incident. We have spoken to the stadium at the weekend and again today and the member of staff has been dismissed.”
He declined to give details of the incident, but, asked if it was a matter of regret, said: “Of course.”
A Swansea Stadium Management Company spokesman said: “On rare occasions we have to supplement our steward numbers from an external security agency to meet the high safety standards we set.
“We became aware that one particular steward from that agency was not behaving in the acceptable and appropriate manner we have come to expect from our regular and trained stewards.
“The steward in question was removed from the stadium immediately and was spoken to by the police on duty. He will certainly not be utilised by us again, while we also understood he is no longer employed by the agency in question.
“Our regular stewards have worked hard to build and maintain an excellent and professional relationship with our supporters.
“Fan safety, support and enjoyment is of paramount importance to us and we will continue to build on that relationship going forward.’’

Heard from a Swansea fan that was there he said.
When they scored he stood on the seat and this Steward in his twenties told him to sit down. The Steward was told to fook off and then the Steward outside. The one fan chased him down the stand where he ran into the arms of the old bill. When it was explained it was the steward who offered him out the Steward was removed. There was no reference to him doing the

. Passed on what I was told.
