Cardiff City board to boycott Wigan match over alleged racism

By David Ornstein
BBC Sport

The entire Cardiff City board will boycott Tuesday's Championship game at Wigan in protest at what they allege to be a club owned and managed by racists.
It is understood the Cardiff owner Vincent Tan has instructed directors not to attend the match and they are said to support this position.
Wigan owner Dave Whelan was fined £50,000 for making racist comments about Jewish and Chinese people.
He also served a six-week ban from all football-related activity.
However, a Football Association disciplinary commission said it was "satisfied" Whelan "is not a racist" and did not intend to cause offence.
The 78-year-old's comments were made as he defended the appointment of Malky Mackay as the new Latics manager in November.
Mackay is currently under investigation by the FA regarding allegations he sent "sexist, racist and homophobic" text messages during his time in charge of Cardiff.
The Scot admitted sending offensive messages and apologised, adding that he is not racist, sexist, homophobic or anti-Semitic.
Mackay was sacked by the Bluebirds in December 2013.
Wigan declined to comment.

According to sky sports news No cardiff city board members will be in attendance for the game with wigan :?

Why cant we as a club just let the past go and move on, this makes us look petty in my eyes we should be more professional than this .

Unbelievable.

Fair enough. No-one is perceived to have disrespected Vincent Tan more than Malky Mackay. This is the first time we have come into direct contact with Malky since the story came out. A straightforward boycott is a dignified way of dealing with the situation.

Next season, if we are still in the same division, is the time to start building bridges.

Mr Whelan didn't make the situation any easier either.

Does this mean Russell Slade won't shake hands with Malky before or after the game ?

Are the players who played under Malky not allowed to talk to him ?

Where does it end ?

Would guess it would depend on whether Slade and the players respected Malky or not. If Tan has banned them then yes that's out of order but has he actually banned anyone? Is it not possible that the rest of the Board share Tan's views or are you ITK on this Carl to make such a big issue of it?

I have not stated Tan has banned anyone

I am not ITK and making a big issue of it, I am asking questions on where it ends, if directors are boycotting as suggested by Sky Sports then is that personal choice or through instruction ?

I attended an evening at Bryntirion FC last year where a club director sat shoulder to shoulder with Malky Mackay so unless that directors opinion has changed I find the boycott odd, is that explanation of my thinking clear enough for you ?

Do the board members go to every game then ?

Carl that is extremely unlikely as nothing to do with slade! Smacks of desperation by people wanting to make a story out of situation with tan and malky! :o as for directors best ask them for reasons only then get true answer?

Allan I disagree with you on this one, that is if of course the directors are boycotting the game, I don't think it smacks of desperation I believe it is carrying on a situation that needs to concluded now.

No, it makes the board look like they are standing by their principles and claims.

I'm not saying the claims are right but I would expect the board to take this action.

I see it has given many on here another big stick to beat the club with.

Carl it is if they don't, that's kind of my point until it happens its a non story! As for Slade and malky if they don't shake hands that's far worse than boycott by board? As not 1St time club as boycotted a game is it? and other clubs done same as well for their own reasons?

I agree pathetic

Tans obsession with Malky has led to part of the destruction of our club.

As I have said many times Tan is destroying our club bit by bit.

Tan should move on regarding Malky and move on from our club :thumbright: :bluescarf: :ayatollah:

We don't know for certain that it's Tans Orders that no directors are going
It could just be that nobody fancies a cold night in chimney pot land
It would be nice if the club put out a statement as to why no director is attending as it would have stopped this threat becoming argumentative
I think we should go to Wigan , try and get a much needed win and come home
Forget about Malkey as he's got his own problems
