' Cardiff City defender Ben Nugent told to fight for Yeovil Town place '
CARDIFF City loanee Ben Nugent has been told he will need to fight to regain his place in Yeovil Town’s starting XI.
The 22-year-old centre half has made 29 appearances for the Glovers since arriving in the summer, but was dropped from the squad for Saturday’s 2-2 Sky Bet League One draw with Gillingham.
Acting manager Terry Skiverton signed defensive duo Byron Webster and Stephen Kingsley from Millwall and Swansea City respectively, with Nugent the sixth temporary player that had to sit out at the weekend.
Former Street youngster Nugent has come in for criticism from supporters, with Skiverton stating he had to refresh a stale squad.
He said: “It’s the same as everyone else. He’s fighting for his place. If people don’t fight they will find they are watching the game from the stands. Things may change for next week. We had to make sure we thought about the club first.”
Skiverton also praised the Glovers following after they applauded their team from the pitch against the Gills having seen substitute Adam Morgan convert an injury time penalty to seal a point.
“Again the support was magnificent for us today,” he said after the final whistle. “There was no booing at the end of the game, they were entertained with a tinge of disappointment that we nearly threw the game away.
“They can see that we’re creating chances and they can see that everyone is behind the team. We’ve lost a point, it’s gone to five points at the bottom and when you look at the bigger picture you’re disappointed. But when you look at the level of the performance and the football played we were really pleased.”

Always rated him unlike most of our clumpy restricted agile central defenders he can actually move and play football.
Other than manga they can only play hoof ball.
another talented player neglected

Tall 6ft 5inch solid defender who can also play it short out of defence. Another talent from our accademy who was'nt given an opportunity by Solsjaer and now Slade to show what he can do.
There does'nt seem to be a route from academy to Development then into our Championship team for these youngsters to progress.

Had a few good games but struggled massively after that, I dont think he wil make it but hopefully in a year or so out on loan he might. I wouldnt surpise to see him released.

Is there two Ben Nugents ? I must have missed the ball playing centre half one and saw the gangly kid who just booted it anywhere...
Did a job, but thats all....
Big jump from U21 football to championship, we need an alternative route. 3 or 4 season long loans to county would help.

This is exactly how I remember him! After one or two half decent games he kicked the ball upfield like a Sunday league player with a hangover.
Of course he is older now so should be given a chance when he comes back but it doesn't bold well if he struggles to get into a Yeovil team.

When he played for the development he had more than one player in midfield who was happy to have it short.
As a defender your options are limited when you don't have anyone infront of you who wants it.
He had a good game for Yeovil against Man Utd. He's still young. Plenty of time to mature.

Looked good for us when he first started out, shame that he can't even get into the Yeovil team now. He'll be gone for good next season.

Great attitude and was a good tackler but scared stiff when he had the ball and always looked like he had a mistake in him. Not here to slate him but when I see posts about a playing centre half I have no doubt these people do not attend the matches. It's actually laughable

Some people just can't wait to have a go at the club for every thing it does, even when the criticism is so absurd that it makes them look ridiculous. this one takes the biscuit. Did you ever see Nugent play?
