there is a great place opposite the Old Orleans in St Johns sq.

Cafe Citta maybe. By the way Old Orleans went ages ago, its now a Harvester.
Definitely worth considering Giovannis, as well as The Hayes they now got a restaurant on Park Place. Valentinos on Windsor Place is not too bad either.

Bella Italia, shit warmed up in the microwave by a chain restaurant, your tastebuds must be non existent

I go often to a Giovanni's in Newport and the food and Service have both been excellent for over 20 years. If the Cardiff one is anywhere near as good, then give that one a go.
Decent prices and their special meals served in a conche will defo be a hit if you're trying to impress the misses.

For my money it has to be Stefano's in Romilly Crescent, Pontcanna/Canton.
Fantastic home made food and great service. It just won the Echo's "Best Italian restaurant" award, in this year's food and drink awards. This is one of the few times I actally agree with an article in the Echo!
Been to Stefano's a few times and the quality is always very high indeed. For me much nicer than Giovanni's or Jamie's.
Give it a try - you won't be dissappointed.

I find it infuriating that when i try and order food from an Italian take away/delivery place on the Just Eat app, that most of them are not Italian at all and are not even run by an Italian person. I like Pizza and some times I fancy an Italian style Pizza - you know with the thin base, Parma Ham, etc - rather than an American deep thick crust, from Pizza Hut, Dominos, etc. Wherever I look on the app the place may have an Italian sounding name but the style of the food is so far from Italian style it's not true. Sometimes you can tell just by the names of the meals, as most proper Italian meals are written in Italian - not all of them but a few of them. Also, a lot of them are not Italian but another nationality that's not British yet claim to make their food in the Italian way.
Anyway, does anybody know of a 100% ITALIAN takeaway and delivery that makes all of their food and specifically their Pizza's, and pasta dishes in the Italian way???
Thanks for helping.

I would definitely say Café citta best Italian in Cardiff, though I have never tried Giovannis. Always been a bit put off by the celeb kind of image they have. Café citta have a wood fired oven which is quite rare I think. Although there is a place in Cyncoed that has one too called Anatonis, and I believe there is a new place on Cowbridge rd which is meant to be good called Calibrisella which is so authentic there are members of the taffia sat outside sipping espressos. If you rate Bella Italia then good for you but at the risk of sounding like a food snob there is much better out there if not tried. You could end up having a taste sensation. Although each to their own of course.
Geggs - where do you live? I don't know if any of the above places do delivery, though sure they all do takeway. There is a place called Frankie's Italian opposite the George in Roath which delivers, yes he is Itlaian and yes pizza is authentic and nice enough, though perhaps a little bland. He does deliver. But his homemade cakes are from Costco lol
Yes I am a fat b*stard and now I must get to the gym.

Giovannis for food, little rough around the edges decor wise but for food it's my favourite by a country mile. Proper mamas cooking. Enjoy

Cafe Citta or Giovannis on the Hayes are both ok, avoid chain Italians like Bella Italia at all costs.

I'll second that. Genuine Italian owned and all home cooked. I can remember it being there for about 30 years, one of the oldest in Cardiff if not the oldest Italian restaurant.

Chain restaurants, Giovanni's????
Scalini's - Wedal Road.
If you've been, you will know.

Closing down soon as well, the owners are retiring I believe.
